Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) is reported as saying, “To invoke Almighty Allah’s blessings upon Muhammad and his Household at Friday nights is equal to winning 1000 rewards, having 1000 evildoings erased, and having 1000 ranks raised.” Recite Salwaat 100 times at least at Friday nights. The more the better.
Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) is reported as saying that one who says the following prayer in the last prostration of the `Isha' nafila(supererogatory prayer) on Thursday nights and repeats it seven times will have all his sins forgiven as soon as he finishes that prayer.
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِوَجْهِكَ ٱلْكَريمِ
allahumma inni as'aluka biwajhika alkarimi
O Allah, I beseech You in the name of Your Noble Face
وَٱسْمِكَ ٱلْعَظيمِ
wasmika al`azimi
and in the name of Your Sublime Name
أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
an tusalliya `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
to send blessings to Muhammad and his Household
وَأَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِي ذَنْبِيَ ٱلْعَظيمَ
wa an taghfira li dhanbiya al`azima
and to forgive me my grave sin.
يَا دَائِمَ ٱلْفَضْلِ عَلَىٰ ٱلْبَريِّةِ
ya da'ima alfadli `ala albariyyati
O He Who is ever-Favorer on the beings!
يَا بَاسِطَ ٱلْيَدَيْنِ بِٱلْعَطِيَّةِ
ya basita aliyadayni bil`atiyyati
O He Who is openhandedly Bestower of gifts!
يَا صَاحِبَ ٱلْمَوَاهِبِ ٱلسَّنِيَّةِ
ya sahiba almawahibi alssaniyyati
O He Who is the Giver of sublime donations!
صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمِّدٍ وَآلِهِ
salli `ala muhammadin wa alihi
Bless Muhammad and his Household,
خَيْرِ ٱلْوَرَىٰ سَجِيَّةً
khayri alwara sajiyyatan
the best of all creatures in traits,
وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا يَا ذَٱ ٱلْعُلَىٰ
waghfir lana ya dhal`ula
and forgive us, O Lord of Highness,
فِي هٰذِهِ ٱلْعَشِيَّةِ
fi hadhihi al`ashiyyati
at this evening.
The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings upon him and his family) is reported to have said that one who repeats the following prayer seven times at Thursday night will be allowed Paradise if he departs life at that night / Friday.
اَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي
allahumma anta rabbi
O Allah, You are my Lord;
لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ
la ilaha illa anta
there is no god save You;
خَلَقْتَني وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَٱبْنُ أَمَتِكَ
khalaqtani wa ana `abduka wabnu amatika
You have created me, and I am Your slave and the son of Your bondmaid;
وَفي قَبْضَتِكَ وَنَاصِيَتي بِيَدِكَ
wa fi qabdatika wa nasiyati biyadika
and I am in Your grip; and my forehead is in Your Hand;
أَمْسَيْتُ عَلَىٰ عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا ٱسْتَطَعْتُ
amsaytu `ala `ahdika wa wa`dika ma istata`tu
I come to observe my covenant and promise to You as much as I can.
أَعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ
a`udhu biridaka min sharri ma sana`tu
I take refuge in Your pleasure against the evil of my deeds.
أَبُوءُ بِنِعْمَتِكَ وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي
abu'u bini`matika wa abu'u bidhanbi
I acknowledge Your favors and confess of my sins.
فَٱغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي
faghfir li dhunubi
So, (please) forgive my sins,
إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ
innahu la yaghfiru aldhdhunuba illa anta
for none can forgive sins save You.
اَللّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي أَخْشَاكَ كَأَنِّي أَرَاكَ
allaahummaj-'alnee akhshaaka ka-annee araak
O Allah make me Submissive, till I surrender to Thee,
وَأَسْعِدْنِي بِتَقَواكَ وَلا تُشْقِني بِمعَاصيكَ
wa as'idnee bi-taqwaaka wa laa tushqinee bi-ma'aaseek
make me happy by putting "fear of God" in my heart, do not make me miserable on account of disobedience unto Thee.
وَخِرْ لِي فِي قَضَائِكَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِي قَدَرِكَ
wa khir lee fee qadaa'ika wa baarik lee fee qadarik
Write (prescribe) for me freedom from pain, trouble and anxiety, make ready for me blessings and happiness,
حَتَّى لاَ أُحِبَّ تَعْجِيلَ مَا أَخَّرْتَ وَلاَ تَأَخِيرَ مَا عَجّلْتَ
hattaa laa uhibba ta'jeela maa akh-kharta wa laa ta'kheera maa 'ajjalat
so that I do not like what You delay to come in advance, or what You make happen quickly to be delayed.
وَاجْعَلْ غِنَايَ فِي نَفْسِي
waj'al ghinaaya fee nafsee
Give me contentment and an independent disposition.
وَمَتِّعْنِي بِسَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي وَاجْعَلْهُمَا الوَارِثِينَ مِنِّي
wa matti'nee bi-sam'ee wa basaree waj'al-humal-waarithayni minnee
Make me derive advantage from the power of hearing (I listen to and accept advise and obey) and seeing (discernment, intelligence, and perception of truth);and both of them to my inheritors
وَانْصُرْنِي عَلَى مَنْ ظَلَمَنِي وَأَرِنِي فِيِهِ قُدْرَتَكَ
wansurnee 'alaa man zalamanee wa arinee feehi qudratak
Give me an upper hand over him who intimidates me, and treat me well through Thy might and power,
يَا رَبِّ وَأَقْرِرْ بِذَلِكَ عَيْنِيَ
yaa rabbi wa aqrir bi-dhaalika 'aynee
o Lord, and keep me in that exact state.
اَللّهُمَّ أَعِنِّيْ عَلَى هَوْلِ يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ
allaahumma a'innee 'alaa hawli yawmil-qiyaamah
o Allah! Attend to and, take care of me in the frightening hour of the Day of Judgement.
وَأَخْرِجْنِي مِنَ الدُّنْيا سَالِمَاً وَأَدْخِلْنِي الْجَنَّةَ آمِنَاً
wa akhrijnee minad-dunyaa saaliman wa adkhilnil-jannata aaminaa
Make me leave this world in safe and sound condition, and enter the permanent land of bliss and beauty (Paradise)in peace and tranquillity;
وَزَوِّجْنِي مِنَ الْحُوُرِ الْعِينِ
wa zawwijnee minal-hooril-'een
and Houries as mates
وَاكفِنِي مُؤُنَتِي ومُؤنَةَ عِيالِي وَمُؤُنَةَ النَّاسِ
wakfinee ma'oonatee wa ma'oonata 'iyaalee wa ma'oonatan-naas
multiply provisions allotted to me, and to my dependents, also promote welfare of the people and make me sit, through Thy mercy, in the company of Thy upright servants.
وَأَدْخِلْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ فِي عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ
wa adkhilnee bi-rahmatika fee 'ibaadikas-saaliheen
and join the delightful charming people who have refined manners, intellegent minds and beautiful faces,.
اَللّهُمَّ إِنْ تُعَذِّبْنِي فَأَهْلٌ لِذَلكَ
allaahumma in tu'adh-dhibnee fa-ahlun li-dhaalik
O Allah! If penalised (it means) I deserved punishment;
أَنَا وَإِنْ تَغْفِرْ لِي فَأَهْلٌ لِذَلِكَ
anaa wa in taghfir lee fa-ahlun li-dhaalik
if forgiven (it is because) Thou art (the Most Merciful) Master. How would Thou punish?
أَنْتَ وَكَيْفَ تُعَذِّبْنِي يَا سَيِّدِي وَحُبُّكَ فِي قَلْبِي أَمَا
anta wa kayfa tu'adh-dhibunee yaa sayyidee wa hubbuka fee qalbee amaa
My Master! My heart is full of Thy love, undoubtedly, and Thy absolute authority,
وَعِزَّتِكِ لَئِنْ فَعَلْتَ ذَلِكَ بِي
wa 'izzatika la'in fa'alta dhaalika bee
very 'kindly, take notice of that, and keep, us together with people who are given respite.
لَتَجْمَعَنَّ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ قَوْمٍ طَالَمَا عَادَيْتَهُم فِيكَ
latajma'anna baynee wa bayna qawmin taala-maa 'aadaytuhum feek
How much less attention they may pay to ' Thy commands!
اَللّهُمَّ بِحَقِ أَوْلِيائِكَ الطَّاهِرِينَ عَلَيْهُمُ السَّلامُ
allaahumma bi-haqqi awliyaa'ikat-taahireena 'alayhimus-salaam
O Allah ! For the sake of Thy pure and pious friends, peace be upon them,
وَارْزُقْنَا صِدْقَ الحَدِيثِ
warzuqnaa sidqal-hadeeth
make us preserve true traditions of the Holy Prophet (saws).
وَأَدَاءَ الأَمَانَةِ وَالْمُحَافَظَةَ عَلَى الصَّلَواتِ
wa adaa'al-amaanati wal-muhaafazata 'alas-salawaat
Return the possessions, to keep safe and watch over the Salat (adoration and worship of Allah)
اَللّهُمَّ أَنَا أَحَقُّ خَلْقِكَ أَنْ تَفْعَلَ ذَلِكَ بِنَا
allaahumma anaa ahaqqu khalqika an taf'ala dhaalika binaa
O Allah! truly, we are the worthiest among Thy creation, treat us in that context.
اَللّهُمَّ افْعَلْهُ بِنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ
allaahummaf-'alhu binaa bi-rahmatik
O Allah treat us mercifully.
اَللّهُمَّ ارْفَعْنِي إِلَيْكَ صَاعِدَاً
allaahummar-fa'nee ilayka saa'idaa
O Allah! . Make my knowledge about Thee of the highest quality.
وَلاَ تُطْمِعَنَّ فِيَّ عَدُوَّاً وَلا حَاسِداًوَاحْفَظْنِي قَائِمَاً وَقَاعِدَاً وَيَقْظَانَ وَرَاقِدَاً
wa laa tutmi'anna fiyya 'aduwwan wa laa haasidaa wahfaznee qaa'iman wa qaa'idan wa yaqzaana wa raaqidaa
Do not let me drown myself in hatred, nor feel resentful; keep me steadfast, within bounds, obedient, enduring.
اَللّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَاهْدِنِي سَبِيلَكَ الأقْوَمَ
allaahummagh-fir lee warhamnee wahdinee sabeelakal-aqwam
O Allah forgive me, have mercy on me, make me strive in Thy honesty,
وَقِنِي حَرَّ جَهَنَّمَ وَحَرِيِقَهَا
wa qinee harra jahannama wa hareeqahaa
free me from the of burning Hell, from being consumed by the blazing fire,
الْمُضْرَمَ وَاحْطُطُ عَنِّي الْمُغْرَمَ وَالْمَأْثَمَ
al-mudrama wahtut 'annil-mughrama wal-ma'tham
make less what I have to pay back, and the punishment deserved
وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنْ خِيارِ العَالَمِ
waj'alnee min khiyaaril-'aalam
,make me be one of the choicest people for all times.
اَللّهُمَّ ارْحَمْنِي مِمَّا لا طَاقَةَ لِي بِهِ وَلا صَبْرَ لِي عَلَيْهِ بِرَحْمَتِك يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.
allaahummar-hamnee mimmaa laa taaqata lee bihee wa laa sabra lee 'alayhi bi-rahmatika yaa arhamar-raahimeen
o Allah' ' have mercy on me because I have not the strength, nor patience to withstand it (punishment) ,through Thy mercy,O the Most Merciful.
اَللّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الأَوَّلُ فَلا شَيْءَ قَبْلَكَ
allaahumma antal-awwalu fa-laa shay'a qablak
O Allah, You are the First, and nothing is before You
وَأَنْتَ الآخِرُ الَّذي لاَ يَهْلَكُ
wa antal-aakhirul-ladhee laa yahlik
And You are the Last, and nothing will outlast You
وَأَنْتَ الحيُّ الَّذي لا يَمُوتُ
wa antal-hayyul-ladhee laa yamoot
And You are the Ever-Living, who never dies
وَالخَالِقُ الَّذي لا يَعْجِزُ
wal-khaaliqul-ladhee laa ya'jiz
And You are the Creator, who is never incapable
وَأَنْتَ البَصِيرُ الَّذي لاَ يَرْتَابُ
wa antal-baseerul-ladhee laa yartaab
And You are the All-Seeing, with no doubt
وَأَنْتَ الصَادِقُ الَّذي لاَ يَكْذِبُ
wa antas-saadiqul-ladhee laa yakdhib
And You are the Truthful, who never lies
القَاهِرُ الَّذي لا يُغْلَبُ
al-qaahirul-ladhee laa yughlab
The Subduer, who is never defeated
الْبَدِيءُ لا يَنْفَدُ
al-badee'u laa yanfad
The Incomparable, whose works never come to an end
الْقَرِيبُ لاَ يَبْعُدُ
al-qareebu laa yab'ud
The Near, who never becomes distant
القَادِرُ لاَ يُضَامُ
al-qaadiru laa yudaam
The Omnipotent, who is never wronged
الْغَافِرُ لاَ يُظْلَمُ
al-ghaafiru laa yuzlam
The Forgiver, who never wrongs
الصَّمَدُ لاَ يُطْعَمُ
as-samadu laa yut'am
The Eternal, who is not in need of sustenance
الْقَيَّومُ لاَ يَنْامُ
al-qayyoomu laa yanaam
The Sustainer, who never sleeps
الْمُجِيبُ لاَ يَسْأَمُ
al-mujeebu laa yas'am
The Responder, who never tires
الْحَنَّانُ لاَ يُرَامُ
al-hannaanu laa yuraam
The Most Compassionate, who cannot be sought in vain
الْعالِمُ لاَ يُعَلَّمُ
al-'aalimu laa yu'allam
The All-Knowing, who is not taught
القويُّ لاَ يَضْعُفْ
al-qawiyyu laa yad'uf
The Strong, who is never weak
الْعَظِيمُ لاَ يُوصَفُ
al-'azeemu laa yoosaf
The Magnificent, who cannot be described fully
الْوَفِيُّ لاَ يُخْلِفُ
al-wafiyyu laa yukhlif
The Faithful, who never betrays
الْعَدْلُ لاَ يَحِيفُ
al-'adlu laa yaheef
The Just, who never wrongs
الْغَنِيُّ لاَ يَفْتَقِرُ
al-ghaniyyu laa yaftaqir
The Self-Sufficient, who is never poor
الْكَبِيرُ لاَ يَصْغُرُ
al-kabeeru laa yasghur
The Great, who never diminishes
الْمَنِيعُ لاَ يُقْهَرُ
al-manee'u laa yuqhar
The Protector, who cannot be defeated
الْمَعْرُوفُ لاَ يُنْكَرُ
al-ma'roofu laa yunkar
The Benefactor, whose goodness is never denied
الْغَالِبُ لاَ يُغْلَبُ
al-ghaalibu laa yughlab
The Victor, who is never defeated
الْوِتْرُ لاَ يَسْتَأَنِسُ
al-witru laa yasta'nis
The Unique One, who is never dependent
الْفَرْدُ لاَ يَسْتَشِيرُ
al-fardu laa yastasheer
The One, who seeks no counsel
الْوَهَّابُ لاَ يَمَلُّ
al-wahhaabu laa yamall
The Bestower, who never tires
الْجَوَادُ لاَ يَبْخَلُ
al-jawaadu laa yabkhal
The Generous, who is never stingy
الْعَزِيزُ لاَ يَذِلُّ
al-'azeezu laa yadhill
The Almighty, who is never humbled
الْحَافِظُ لاَ يَغْفَلُ
al-haafizu laa yaghfal
The Preserver, who never forgets
الْقَائِمُ لاَ يَنْامُ
al-qaa'imu laa yanaam
The Ever-Sustaining, who never sleeps
الْمُحْتَجِبُ لاَ يُرى
al-muhtajibu laa yuraa
The Hidden One, who cannot be seen
الدَّائِمُ لاَ يَفْنَى
ad-daa'imu laa yafnaa
The Everlasting, who never perishes
الْبَاقِي لاَ يَبْلَى
al-baaqee laa yablaa
The Remaining, who never decays
الْمُقْتَدِرُ لاَ يُنَازَعُ
al-muqtadiru laa yunaaza'
The Omnipotent, who is never contested
الْوَاحِدُ لاَ يُشَبَّهُ
al-waahidu laa yushabbah
The One, who is not compared
لاَ إلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ
laa ilaaha illaa ant
There is no god but You
الْحَقُّ الَّذي لا تُغَيِّرُكَ الأَزْمِنَةُ
al-haqqul-ladhee laa tughayyirukal-azminah
The Truth, who is not altered by time
وَلاَ تُحِيطُ بِكَ الأَمْكِنَةُ
wa laa tuheetu bikal-amkinah
And whose presence is not contained by places
وَلاَ يأخُذُكَ نَوْمٌ وَلاَ سِنَةٌ
wa laa ya'khudhuka nawmuw-wa laa sinah
And no sleep or drowsiness overtakes You
وَلاَ يَشْبَهُكَ شَيءٌ
wa laa yashbahuka shay'
And nothing is comparable to You
وَكَيْفَ لاَ تَكُونُ كَذلِكَ
wa kayfa laa takoonu kadhaalik
And how can it be otherwise
وَأَنْتَ خَالِقُ كُلَِّ شَيءٍ
wa anta khaaliqu kulli shay'
When You are the Creator of everything
لاَ إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ
laa ilaaha illaa ant
There is no god but You
كُلُّ شَيءٍ هَالِكٌ إلاّ وَجْهَكَ الْكَرِيمَ
kullu shay'in haalikun illaa wajhakal-kareem
Everything perishes except Your Noble Face
أَكْرَمَ الْوُجُوهِ
akramal-wujooh
The most honorable of faces
أمَانُ الْخَائِفِينَ وَجَارُ الْمُسْتَجِيرِينَ
amaanul-khaa'ifeena wa jaarul-mustajeereen
The refuge for the fearful and the protector of those seeking shelter
أَسْأَلُكَ وَلاَ أَسْألُ غَيْرَكَ
as-aluka wa laa as-alu ghayrak
I ask You and not anyone else
وَأَرْغَبُ إليكَ وَلاَ أَرْغَبُ إلى غَيْرِكَ
wa arghabu ilayka wa laa arghabu ilaa ghayrik
And I turn to You with hope, not to anyone else
أَسْأَلُكَ بَأَفْضَلِ الْمَسَائِلِ كُلِّهِا
as-aluka bi-afdalil-masaa'ili kullihaa
I ask You with the best of all requests
وَأَنْجَحِها الَّتِي لاَ يَنْبَغِي لِلِعِبَادِ
wa anjahihaal-latee laa yambaghee lil-'ibaad
And I ask You for the most successful of them, which Your servants cannot ask except through You
أَنْ يَسْأَلُوكَ إلاَّ بِهَا
an yas'alooka illaa bihaa
That they should not ask You except with it
أَنْتَ الْفَتَّاحُ الْنَّفَاحُ
antal-fattaahun-naffaah
You are the Opener, the Bestower
ذُو الْخَيْرَاتِ مُقِيلُ الْعَثَرَاتِ
dhul-khayraati muqeelul-'atharaat
The Source of all goodness, the Remover of faults
كَاتِبُ الْحَسَنَاتِ مَاحِي الْسَيئاتِ
kaatibul-hasanaati maahis-sayyi'aat
The Recorder of good deeds, the Eraser of sins
رَافِعُ الْدَرَجَاتِ
raafi'ud-darajaat
The Exalter of ranks
أَسْأَلُكَ يَا أَللهُ يَا رَحْمَانُ
as-aluka yaa allaahu yaa rahmaan
I ask You, O Allah, O Most Merciful
بِأَسْمَائِكَ الحُسْنى كُلِّهِا
bi-asmaa'ikal-husnaa kullihaa
By Your most beautiful names
وَكَلِمَاتِكَ الْعُليا وَنِعَمِكَ الَّتي لا تُحْصَى
wa kalimaatikal-'ulyaa wa ni'amikallatee laa tuhsaa
And by Your highest words and Your blessings that cannot be counted
وَأَسْأَلُكَ بَأَكْرَمَ أَسْمَائِكَ عَلَيْكَ
wa as-aluka bi-akrami asmaa'ika 'alayk
And I ask You with the most honored of Your names to You
وَأَحَبِّهَا إليكَ وَأَشْرَفِها عِنْدَكَ
wa ahabbihaa ilayka wa ashrafihaa 'indak
And with the most beloved and the most honored of them to You
مَنْزِلَةً وَأَقْرَبِهَا مِنْكَ وَسِيِلَةً
manzilatan wa aqrabihaa minka waseelah
In rank and the closest of them to You and the means to You
وَأَسْرَعِهَا مِنْكَ إِجَابَةً
wa asra'ihaa minka ijaabah
And the quickest of them to be answered by You
وَبِاسْمِكَ الْمَكْنِونِ الْمَخْزُونِ
wa bismikal-maknoonil-makhzoon
And by Your hidden and guarded name
الْجَلِيلِ الأجلِ الْعَظِيمِ
al-jaleelil-ajallil-'azeem
The Majestic, the Glorious, the Great
الَّذي تُحِبُّهُ وَتَرضَى عَمَّنْ دَعَاكَ بِهِ
alladhee tuhibbuhu wa tardaa 'amman da'aaka bih
Whom You love and are pleased with those who call You by it
وَتَسْتَجِيبُ لَهُ دُعَاءَهُ
wa tastajeebu lahu du'aa'ah
And You answer their supplication
وَحَقٌّ عَلَيْكَ ألاّ تَحْرِمَ سَائِلَكَ
wa haqqun 'alayka allaa tahrima saa'ilak
And it is Your right that You never reject the one who asks
وَبُكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ فِي التَوْرَاةِ وَالإِنْجيلِ
wa bi-kulli ismin huwa laka fit-tawraati wal-injeel
And by every name that is Yours in the Torah and the Gospel
وَالزَّبُورِ وَالفُرْقَانِ الْعَظِيمِ
waz-zaboori wal-furqaanil-'azeem
And in the Psalms and the Qur’an, the great scripture
وَبِكُلِّ اسمٍ هُوَ لَكَ عَلَّمْتَهُ أَحَداً مِنْ خَلْقِكَ
wa bi-kulli ismin huwa laka 'allamtahoo ahadam-min khalqik
And by every name You have taught to anyone among Your creation
أَوْ لَمْ تُعَلِّمْهُ أَحَداً
aw lam tu'allimhu ahadaa
Or kept it hidden from all creation
أَوْ اسْتَأثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الْغَيِبِ عِنْدَكَ
awis-ta'tharta bihee fee 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indak
Or You have kept it for Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen
وَبِكُلِّ اسْمٍ دَعَاكَ بِهِ حَمَلَةُ عَرْشِكَ
wa bi-kulli ismin da'aaka bihee hamalatu 'arshik
And by every name You are called by the bearers of Your Throne
وَمَلائِكَتُكَ وَأَصْفِياؤُكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ
wa malaa'ikatuka wa asfiyaa'uka min khalqik
And by Your angels and Your chosen ones among Your creation
وَبِحَقِّ الْسَائِلِينَ لَكَ وَالْرَاغِبِينَ إلَيْكَ
wa bi-haqqis-saa'ileena laka war-raaghibeena ilayk
And by the right of those who ask of You and those who yearn towards You
وَالْمُتَعَوِّذِينَ بِكَ وَالْمُتَضَرِّعِينَ إِلَيْكَ
wal-muta'awwidheena bika wal-mutadarri'eena ilayk
And by those who seek refuge in You and those who humble themselves before You
أَدْعُوكَ يَا أَللهُ دُعَاءَ مَنْ قَدْ اشْتَدَّتْ فَاقَتُهُ
ad'ooka yaa allaahu du'aa'a man qadish-taddat faaqatuh
I call upon You, O Allah, as the one whose need has grown severe
وَعَظُمَ جُرْمُهُ وَأَشْرَفَ عَلى الهَلَكَةِ نَفْسُهُ
wa 'azuma jurmuhu wa ashrafa 'alal-halakati nafsuh
And whose sin has grown immense, and his soul is close to destruction
وَضَعُفَتْ قُوَّتُهُ وَمَنْ لاَ يَثِقُ بِشَيءٍ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ
wa da'ufat quwwatuhu wa mal-laa yathiqu bi-shay'im-min 'amalih
And whose strength has weakened, and who trusts nothing of his deeds
وَلاَ يَجِدُ لِفَاقَتَهِ سَادَّاً غَيْرَكَ.
wa laa yajidu li-faaqatihee saaddan ghayrak
And he finds no reliever for his need but You.
فَقَدْ هَرَبتُ مِنْها إِلَيْكَ.
faqad harabtu minhaa ilayk
I have fled from it to You.
غيرَ مُستنكِفٍ وَلاَ مُسْتَكبِرٍ عَنْ عِبَادَتِكَ.
ghayra mustankifin wa laa mustakbirin 'an 'ibaadatik
Without reluctance or arrogance in worshiping You.
يَا أَنَسَ كُلِّ مُسْتَجِيرٍ.
yaa anasa kulli mustajeer
O comfort of every seeker of refuge.
يَا سَنَدَ كُلِّ فَقِيرٍ.
yaa sanada kulli faqeer
O support of every needy one.
أَسْأَلُكَ بَأَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللهُ.
as-aluka bi-annaka antal-laah
I ask You, as You are Allah.
الْحَنَّانُ الْمَنَّانُ.
al-hannaanul-mannaan
The Most Compassionate, the Most Generous.
لاَ إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ.
laa ilaaha illaa ant
There is no god but You.
بَديِعُ الْسَمَاواتِ وَالأَرْضِ.
badee'us-samaawaati wal-ard
The Creator of the heavens and the earth.
ذُو الْجَلالِ وَالإِكْرامِ.
dhul-jalaali wal-ikraam
The Possessor of Majesty and Honor.
عالِمُ الغيبِ وَالْشَهَادَةِ.
'aalimul-ghaybi wash-shahaadah
The Knower of the unseen and the seen.
الْرَحْمنُ الْرَّحِيمُ.
ar-rahmaanur-raheem
The Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.
أَنْتَ الْرَّبُّ وَأَنَا الْعَبْدُ.
antar-rabbu wa anal-'abd
You are the Lord, and I am the servant.
أَنْتَ الْمَالِكُ وَأَنَا الْمَمْلُوكُ.
antal-maaliku wa anal-mamlook
You are the Master, and I am the owned.
أَنْتَ الْعَزِيزُ وَأَنَا الْذَلِيلُ.
antal-'azeezu wa anadh-dhaleel
You are the Mighty, and I am the humble.
أَنْتَ الْغَنِيُّ وَأَنَا الْفَقِيرُ.
antal-ghaniyyu wa anal-faqeer
You are the Rich, and I am the poor.
أَنْتَ الْحَيُّ وَأَنَا الْمَيِّتُ.
antal-hayyu wa anal-mayyit
You are the Ever-Living, and I am the dead.
أَنْتَ الْبَاقِي وَأَنَا الْفَانِي.
antal-baaqee wa anal-faanee
You are the Eternal, and I am the perishing.
أَنْتَ الْمُحْسِنُ وَأَنَا الْمُسيءُ.
antal-muhsinu wa anal-musee'
You are the Benefactor, and I am the wrongdoer.
أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ وَأَنَا الْمُذْنِبُ.
antal-ghafooru wa anal-mudhnib
You are the Forgiving, and I am the sinner.
أَنْتَ الرَّحِيْمُ وَأَنَا الْخَاطِئُ.
antar-raheemu wa anal-khaati'
You are the Merciful, and I am the erring.
أَنْتَ الْخَالِقُ وَأَنَا الْمَخْلُوقُ.
antal-khaaliqu wa anal-makhlooq
You are the Creator, and I am the created.
أَنْتَ الْقَوِيُّ وَأَنَا الضَّعِيْفُ.
antal-qawiyyu wa anad-da'eef
You are the Strong, and I am the weak.
أَنْتَ المُعْطِي وَأَنَا الْسَائِلُ.
antal-mu'tee wa anas-saa'il
You are the Giver, and I am the beggar.
أَنْتَ الْرَازِقُ وَأَنَا الْمَرْزُوقُ.
antar-raaziqu wa anal-marzooq
You are the Sustainer, and I am the sustained.
أَنْتَ أَحقُّ مَنْ شَكَوْتُ إلَيهِ.
anta ahaqqu man shakawtu ilayh
You are the most deserving of my complaints.
وَاسْتَعَنْتُ بِهِ وَرَجَوْتُهُ.
wast'antu bihee wa rajawtuh
I sought His help and placed my hope in Him.
إِلهي كَمْ مِنْ مُذْنِبٍ قَدْ غَفَرْتَ لَهُ.
ilaahee kam mim mudhnibin qad ghafarta lah
O my God, how many sinners You have forgiven.
وَكَمْ مِنْ مُسيءٍ قَدْ تَجَاوَزْتَ عَنْهُ.
wa kam mim musee'in qad tajaawazta 'anh
And how many wrongdoers You have overlooked.
فَصَلِّ عَلى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ.
fa-salli 'alaa muhammadin wa aalih
So bless Muhammad and his family.
واغفِرْ لِي وَارحَمْنِي وَاعْفُ عَنِّي.
waghfir lee warhamnee wa'fu 'annee
Forgive me, have mercy on me, and pardon me.
وَعَافِنِي وَافْتَحْ لِي مِنْ فَضْلِكَ.
wa 'aafinee waftah lee min fadlik
Grant me well-being and open for me from Your bounty.
سُبُّوحٌ ذِكْرُكَ قُدُّوسُ أَمْرُكَ.
subboohun dhikruka quddoosun amruk
Holy is Your mention, Sacred is Your command.
نَافِذٌ قَضَاؤُكَ.
naafidhun qadaa'uk
Your decree is final.
يَسِّرْ لِي مِنْ أَمْرِي مَا أَخَافُ عُسْرَهُ.
yassir lee min amree maa akhaafu 'usrah
Ease for me the matters I fear difficulty in.
وَفَرِّجْ عَنِّي وَعَنْ كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ وَمُؤْمِنَةٍ.
wa farrij 'annee wa 'an kulli mu'minin wa mu'minah
And relieve me and every believing man and woman.
وَاكِفِنِي مَا أَخَافُ ضَرُورَتُهُ.
wakfinee maa akhaafu darooratah
And suffice me from what I fear of necessity.
وَادْرَأْ عَنِّي مَا أَخَافُ حُزُونَتَهُ.
wadra' 'annee maa akhaafu huzoonatah
And avert from me what I fear of sorrow.
وَسَهِّلْ لِي وَلِكُلِّ مُؤمِنٍ مَا أَرْجُوهُ.
wa sahhil lee wa li-kulli mu'minim-maa arjooh
And make easy for me and every believer what I hope for.
لاَ إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ.
laa ilaaha illaa ant
There is no god but YOU
سُبْحَانَكَ إنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَالمِين
subhaanaka innee kuntu minaz-zaalimeen
Glory be to You I have been an oppressor to myself
اَللّهُمَّ إنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ رَحْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدكَ.
allaahumma innee as-aluka rahmatam-min 'indik.
O Allah, I ask You for mercy from You.
تَهْدِي بِهَا قَلْبِي، وَتَجْمَعُ بِهَا أَمْرِي.
tahdee bihaa qalbee, wa tajma'u bihaa amree.
That guides my heart and unites my affairs.
وَتَلُّمُ بِهَا شَعَثِي، وَتَحْفَظُ بِهَا غَائِبِي.
wa talummu bihaa sha'athee, wa tahfazu bihaa ghaa'ibee.
That mends my brokenness and protects what is absent of mine.
وَتُصْلِحُ بِهَا شَاهِدِي، وَتَزَكِّي بِهَا عَمَلِي.
wa tuslihu bihaa shaahidee, wa tuzakkee bihaa 'amalee.
That rectifies my present state and purifies my deeds.
وَتُلْهِمُنِي بِهَا رُشْدِي، وَتَعْصِمُنِي بِهَا مِنْ كُلِّ سُوْءٍ.
wa tulhimunee bihaa rushdee, wa ta'simunee bihaa min kulli soo'.
That inspires my guidance and protects me from all evil.
اَللّهُمَّ أَعْطِنِي إيمَانَاً صَادِقَاً، وَيَقِيناً خَالِصَاً.
allaahumma a'tinee eemaanan saadiqaa, wa yaqeenan khaalisaa.
O Allah, grant me true faith and pure certainty.
وَرَحْمَةً أَنَالُ بِهَا شَرَفَ كَرَامَتِكَ.
wa rahmatan anaalu bihaa sharafa karaamatik.
And mercy through which I attain the honor of Your grace.
فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ.
feed-dunyaa wal-aakhirah.
In this world and the Hereafter.
اَللّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْفَوْزَ فِي الْقَضَاءِ.
allaahumma innee as-alukal-fawza feel-qadaa'.
O Allah, I ask You for success in judgment.
وَمَنَازِلَ الْعُلَمَاءِ، وَعَيْشَ الْسُّعَدَاءِ.
wa manaazilal-'ulamaa', wa 'ayshas-su'adaa'.
And the ranks of the scholars, and the life of the joyful.
وَالْنَّصْرَ عَلَى الأَعْدَاءِ.
wan-nasra 'alal-a'daa'.
And victory over the enemies.
اَللّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَنْزَلْتُ بِكَ حَاجَتِي.
allaahumma innee anzaltu bika haajatee.
O Allah, I have placed my need before You.
وَإِنْ ضَعُفَ عَمَلِي فَقَدْ افْتَقَرْتُ إِلَى رَحْمَتِكَ.
wa in da'ufa 'amalee faqadif-taqartu ilaa rahmatik.
And though my deeds are weak, I am in need of Your mercy.
فَأَسْأَلُكَ يَا قَاضِي الأُمُورِ، وَيَا شَافِي الصُّدُورِ.
fa-as-aluka yaa qaadiyal-umoor, wa yaa shaafiyas-sudoor.
So I ask You, O Arbiter of matters, and Healer of hearts.
كَمَا تُجيرُ بَيْنَ الْبُحُورِ، أَنْ تُجِيرَنِي.
kamaa tujeeru baynal-buhoor, an tujeeranee.
As You reconcile between the seas, to grant me safety.
مِنْ عَذَابِ الْسَعِيرِ، وَمِنْ دَعْوَةِ الْثُّبُورِ.
min 'adhaabis-sa'eer, wa min da'watith-thuboor.
From the torment of Hellfire and the call of despair.
وَمِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْقُبُورِ.
wa min fitnatil-quboor.
And from the trial of the graves.
اَللّهُمَّ وَمَا قَصُرَتْ عَنْهُ مَسْأَلَتِي.
allaahumma wa maa qasurat 'anhu mas'alatee.
O Allah, whatever is beyond my asking,
وَلَمْ تَبْلَغْهُ نِيَّتِي، وَلَمْ تُحِطْ بِهِ مَسْأَلَتِي.
wa lam tablugh-hu niyyatee, wa lam tuhit bihee mas'alatee.
And my intention could not encompass, nor my request comprehend,
مِنْ خَيْرٍ وَعَدْتَهُ أَحَدَاً مِنْ خَلْقِكَ.
min khayrin wa'adtahoo ahadam-min khalqik.
Of the good You promised to any of Your creation,
فَإِنِّي أَرْغَبُ إِلَيْكَ فِيهِ.
fa-innee arghabu ilayka feeh.
Indeed, I turn to You in earnest for it.
اَللّهُمَّ يَا ذَا الْحَبْلِ الَّشدِيدِ، وَالأَمْرِ الرَّشِيدِ.
allaahumma yaa dhal-hablish-shadeed, wal-amrir-rasheed.
O Allah, O Possessor of firm resolve and wise command!
أَسْأَلُكَ الأَمْنَ يَوْمَ الْوَعِيدِ.
as-alukal-amna yawmal-wa'eed.
I ask You for safety on the Day of Judgment,
وَالْجَنَّةَ يَوْمَ الْخُلُودِ.
wal-jannata yawmal-khulood.
And Paradise on the Day of Eternity,
مَعَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ الشُّهُودِ.
ma'al-muqarrabeenash-shuhood.
With the near ones who are witnesses.
وَالْرُّكَّعِ وَالسُّجُودِ، الْمُوفِينَ بِالْعُهُودِ.
war-rukka'is-sujood, al-moofeena bil-'uhood.
And those who bow and prostrate, fulfilling their pledges.
إِنَّكَ رَحِيمٌ وَدُوُدٌ.
innaka raheemun wadood.
Indeed, You are Merciful and Loving.
وَإِنَّكَ تَفْعَلُ مَا تُريدُ.
wa innaka taf'alu maa tureed.
And You do whatever You will.
اَللّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا هَادّينَ مَهْدِيّينَ.
allaahummaj-'alnaa haadeena mahdiyyeen.
O Allah, make us guides who are rightly guided,
غَيْرَ ضَالِّينَ، وَلاَ مُضِلِّينَ.
ghayra daalleen, wa laa mudilleen.
Neither astray nor leading others astray.
سِلْمَاً لأَوْلِيائِكَ، وَحَرْبَاً لأَعْدَائِكَ.
silman li-awliyaa'ik, wa harban li-a'daa'ik.
At peace with Your allies and at war with Your enemies.
نُحِبُّ بِحُبِّكَ الْتَائِبِينَ.
nuhibbu bi-hubbikat-taa'ibeen.
We love those who repent, out of love for You,
وَنُعَادِي بِعَدَاوَتِكَ مَنْ خَالَفَكَ.
wa nu'aadee bi-'adaawatika man khaalafak.
And oppose those who oppose You.
اَللّهُمَّ هذَا الدُّعَاءُ، وَعَلَيكَ الاسْتِجَابَةُ.
allaahumma haadhad-du'aa'u, wa 'alaykas-tijaabah.
O Allah, this is the supplication, and it is upon You to respond.
وَهذَا الجُهْدُ، وَعَلَيْكَ التُّكْلاَنُ.
wa haadhal-juhdu, wa 'alaykat-tuklaan.
And this is the effort, and upon You is the reliance.
اَللّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ لِي نُورَاً فِي قَلْبِي.
allaahummaj-'al lee nooran fee qalbee.
O Allah, make for me light in my heart,
وَنُورَاً فِي قَبْرِي، وَنُورَاً بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ.
wa nooran fee qabree, wa nooram-bayna yadayy.
And light in my grave, and light before me,
وَنُورَاً تَحْتِي، وَنُورَاً فَوْقِي.
wa nooran tahtee, wa nooran fawqee.
And light beneath me, and light above me,
وَنُورَاً فِي سَمْعِي، وَنُورَاً فِي بَصَرِي.
wa nooran fee sam'ee, wa nooran fee basaree.
And light in my hearing, and light in my sight,
وَنُورَاً فِي شَعْرِي، وَنُورَاً فِي بَشَرِي.
wa nooran fee sha'ree, wa nooran fee basharee.
And light in my hair, and light in my skin,
وَنُورَاً فِي لَحْمِي، وَنُورَاً فِي عِظَامِي.
wa nooran fee lahmee, wa nooran fee 'izaamee.
And light in my flesh, and light in my bones.
اَللّهُمَّ أَعْظِمْ لِي النُّورَ.
allaahumma a'zim liyan-noor.
O Allah, magnify the light for me.
سُبْحَانَ الَّذي اِرْتَدى بِالعِزِّ وَبَانَ بِهِ.
subhaanal-ladheer-tadaa bil-'izzi wa baana bih.
Glory be to Him who is cloaked in might and manifests through it.
سُبْحَانَ الَّذي لَبِسَ الْمَجْدَ وَتَكَرَّمَ بِهِ.
subhaanal-ladhee labisal-majda wa takarrama bih.
Glory be to Him who adorns majesty and ennobles through it.
سُبْحَانَ مَنْ لا يَنْبَغِي التَّسْبيحُ إلاّ لَهُ.
subhaana mal-laa yambaghit-tasbeehu illaa lah.
Glory be to Him to whom no glorification is due but His.
سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْفَضْلِ وَالنِّعَمِ.
subhaana dhil-fadli wan-ni'am.
Glory be to the Possessor of bounty and blessings.
سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْمَجْدِ وَالْكَرَمِ.
subhaana dhil-majdi wal-karam.
Glory be to the Possessor of glory and generosity.
سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْجَلالِ وَالإِكْرَامِ.
subhaana dhil-jalaali wal-ikraam.
Glory be to the Possessor of majesty and honor.
Friday Dua just Before Dawn / Fajr on Thursday Night
Shaykh al-Tusi, Sayyid Ibn Tawus, and others have mentioned the following
The dua alludes to dangers of total reliance on one's own intelligence.
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وآلِهِ
allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa alihi
O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad and his Household,
وَهَبْ لِيَ ٱلْغَدَاةَ رِضَاكَ
wa hab liya alghadata ridaka
grant me Your satisfaction this very early morning,
وَأَسْكِنْ قَلْبِي خَوْفَكَ
wa askin qalbi khawfaka
place fear of You in my heart,
وَٱقْطَعْهُ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
waqta`hu `amman siwaka
and separate it from (leaning to) anyone other than You,
حَتَّىٰ لاَ أَرْجُوَ وَلاَ أَخَافَ إِلاَّ إِيَّاكَ
hatta la arjwa wa la akhafa illa iyyaka
so that I will hope for and fear none save You.
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وآلِهِ
allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa alihi
O Allah, send blessings to Muhammad and his Household
وَهَبْ لِي ثَبَاتَ ٱلْيَقينِ
wa hab li thabata alyaqini
and grant me resolute faith,
وَمَحْضَ ٱلإِخْلاَصِ
wa mahda al-ikhlasi
pure sincerity (to You),
وَشَرَفَ ٱلتَّوْحيدِ
wa sharafa alttawhidi
honorable belief in (Your) oneness,
وَدَوَامَ ٱلاِسْتِقَامَةِ
wa dawama al-istiqamati
persistent straightness,
وَمَعْدِنَ ٱلصِّبْرِ
wa ma`dina alssabri
essential tolerance,
وَٱلرِّضَا بِٱلْقَضَاءِ وَٱلْقَدَرِ
walrrida bilqada'i walqadari
and satisfaction with (Your) predetermination and decrees.
يَا قَاضِيَ حَوَائِجِ ٱلسَّائِلينَ
ya qadiya hawa'iji alssa'ilina
O He Who settles the needs of His beseechers;
يَا مَنْ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِي ضَمِيرِ ٱلصَّامِتِينَ
ya man ya`lamu ma fi damiri alssamitina
O He Who knows what is in the innermost of the silent;
صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وآلِهِ
salli `ala muhammadin wa alihi
send blessings to Muhammad and his Household,
وَٱسْتَجِبْ دُعَائِي
wastajib du`a'i
respond to my prayers,
وَٱغْفِرْ ذَنْبِي
waghfir dhanbi
forgive my sins,
وَأَوْسِعْ رِزْقِي
wa awsi` rizqi
expand my means of livelihood,
وَٱقْضِ حَوَائِجِي فِي نَفْسِي
waqdi hawa'iji fi nafsi
and settle the needs of myself
وَإِخْوَانِي فِي دِينِي وَأَهْلِي
wa ikhwani fi dini wa ahli
and my brethren-in-faith and my family members.
إِلٰهِي طُمُوحُ ٱلآمَالِ قَدْ خَابَتْ إِلاَّ لَدَيْكَ
ilahi tumuhu al-amali qad khabat illa ladayka
O Allah, all ambitions of expectations are disappointed except those addressed to You,
وَمَعَاكِفُ ٱلْهِمَمِ قَدْ تَعَطَّلَتْ إِلاَّ عَلَيْكَ
wa ma`akifu alhimami qad ta`attalat illa `alayka
all resolute determinations are paralyzed except those relied upon You,
وَمَذَاهِبُ ٱلْعُقُولِ قَدْ سَمَتْ إِلاَّ إِلَيْكَ
wa madhahibu al`uquli qad samat illa ilayka
and all reason-based tendencies are wasted except those directed to You.
فَأَنْتَ الَّرجَاءُ وَإِلَيْكَ الْمُلْتَجَأُ
fa-anta alrraja'u wa ilayka almultaja'u
So, You are the ultimate hope and to You is the resort.
يَا أَكْرَمَ مَقْصُودٍ وَأَجْوَدَ مَسْؤُولٍ
ya akrama maqsudin wa ajwada mas'ulin
O He Who is the noblest objective and the most magnanimous desired,
هَرَبْتُ إِلَيْكَ بِنَفْسِي
harabtu ilayka binafsi
I am fleeing to You from myself.
يَا مَلْجَأَ ٱلْهَارِبِينَ بِأَثْقَالِ ٱلذُّنُوبِ
ya malja'a alharibina bi-athqali aldhdhunubi
O shelter of those who flee overburdened with the heavy loads of sins,
أَحْمِلُهَا عَلَىٰ ظَهْرِي
ahmiluha `ala zahri
carrying my sins on my back,
لاَ أَجِدُ لِي إِلَيْكَ شَافِعاً
la ajidu li ilayka shafi`an
I cannot find any interceder for me
سِوَىٰ مَعْرِفَتِي بِأَنَّكَ أَقْرَبُ مَنْ رَجَاهُ ٱلطَّالِبُونَ
siwa ma`rifati bi'annaka aqrabu man rajahu alttalibuna
except that I know for sure that You are the nearest of all those who are hoped by beseechers
وَأَمَّلَ مَا لَدَيْهِ ٱلرَّاغِبُونَ
wa ammala ma ladayhi alrraghibuna
and of all those whose donations are expected by the desirous.
يَا مَنْ فَتَقَ ٱلْعُقُولَ بِمَعْرِفَتِهِ
ya man fataqa al`uqula bima`rifatihi
O He Who has split the intellects on the recognition of Him,
وَأَطْلَقَ ٱلأَلْسُنَ بِحَمْدِهِ
wa atlaqa al-alsuna bihamdihi
made tongues articulate with the praising of Him
وَجَعَلَ مَا ٱمْتَنَّ بِهِ عَلَىٰ عِبَادِهِ فِي كِفَاءٍ لِتَاْدِيَةِ حَقِّهِ
wa ja`ala ma imtanna bihi `ala `ibadihi fi kifa'in lita'diyati haqqhi
and made that which He has conferred upon His servants enough means for the fulfillment of their duties towards Him;
صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وآلِهِ
salli `ala muhammadin wa alihi
(please) send blessings to Muhammad and his Household,
وَلاَ تَجْعَلْ لِلشَّيْطَانِ عَلَىٰ عَقْلِي سَبيلاًَ
wa la taj`al lilshshaytani `ala `aqli sabilan
do not give Satan any way (of success) over my reason,
وَلاَ لِلْبَاطِلِ عَلَىٰ عَمَلِي دَلِيلاً
wa la lilbatili `ala `amali dalilan
and do not give wrongness a way to reach my deeds.
It has been narrated that one who says the following litany three times before the Dawn (Fajr) Prayer on Fridays will have all his sins forgiven even if they are as innumerable as swelling foams:
أَسْتَغْفِرُ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِي لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ
astaghfiru allaha alladhi la ilaha illa huwa
I pray the forgiveness of Allah save Whom there is no god;
ٱلْحَيُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ
alhayyu alqayyumu wa atubu ilayhi
the Ever-living and Ever-subsisting, and I turn in repentance to Him
When Friday dawns (at fajr), it is recommended to say the following:
أَصْبَحْتُ فِي ذِمَّةِ ٱللَّهِ
asbahtu fi dhimmati allahi
I begin this morning seeking the protection of Allah,
وَذِمَّةِ مَلاَئِكَتِهِ
wa dhimmati mala'ikatihi
the protection of His angels,
وَذِمَمِ أَنْبِيَائِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ عَلَيهِمُ ٱلسَّلاَمُ
wa dhimami anbiya'ihi wa rusulihi `alayhimu alssalamu
the protections of His prophets and messengers, peace be upon them,
وَذِمَّةِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ
wa dhimmati muhammadin salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi
the protection of Muhammad, peace be upon him and his Household,
وَذِمَمِ ٱلأَوْصِيَاءِ مِنَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلاَمُ
wa dhimami al-awsiya'i min ali muhammadin `alayhimu alssalamu
and the protections of the Successors from Muhammad’s progeny, peace be upon them.
آمَنْتُ بِسِرِّ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلاَمُ وَعَلاَنِيَتِهِمْ
amantu bisirri ali muhammadin `alayhimu alssalamu wa `alaniyatihim
I believe in the secrets of Muhammad’s progeny, peace be upon them, and in their open affairs
وَظَاهِرِهِمْ وَبَاطِنِهِمْ
wa zahirihim wa batinihim
and in their exoteric and their esoteric affairs.
وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّهُمْ فِي عِلْمِ ٱللَّهِ وَطَاعَتِهِ
wa ash-hadu annahum fi `ilmi allahi wa ta`atihi
I bear witness that they, as regarding their knowledge of Allah and their obedience to Him,
كَمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ
ka-muhammadin salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi
are just like Muhammad, peace be upon him and his Household.
Offer 2 Rakat Nafila of Fajr In his book of al-`Arus, Shaykh Ja`far ibn Ahmad al-Qummi has recorded that Imam al-Sadiq (as) is reported to have said that one who repeats the following litany one hundred times between the Dawn nafila (2 rakat before fajr) and obligatory prayers will be provided with, a house in Paradise:
سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ ٱلْعَظيمِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ
subhana rabbiya al`azimi wa bihamdihi
All glory be to Allah, the All-great and with the Praising of Him;
اسْتَغْفِرُ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّي وَاتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ
astaghfiru allaha rabbi wa atubu ilayhi
I pray the forgiveness of Allah, my Lord, and I turn repentant to Him.
At Friday nights, it is recommended to recite the following chapters (Surah) of the Holy Qur'an:
(1) Surah al-Isra’ (Bani-Isra'il; No. 17),
(2) Surah al-Kahf (No. 18),
(3) the three Surahs beginning with Ta-Sin, i.e.
Surah al-Shu`ara' (No. 26), Surah al-Naml (No. 27), and Surah al-Qasas (No. 28),
(4) Surah al-Sajdah (No. 32),
(5) Surah Yasin (No. 36),
(6) Surah Sad (No. 38),
(7) Surah al-Ahqaf (No. 46),
(8) Surah al-Waqi`ah (No. 56),
(9) Surah Fussilat (No. 41),(
10) Surah al-Dukhan (No. 44),
(11) Surah al-Tur (No. 52),
(12) Surah al-Qamar (No. 54), and
(13) Surah al-Jumu`ah (No. 62).
If there is not enough time to recite all these Surahs, one may choose Surah al-Waqi`ah and those preceding it [in the aforesaid list].
Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) is reported to have said
i)one who recites Surah al-Isra' each Friday night will join Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) as one of his companions.
ii)one who recites Surah al-Kahf at Friday nights will die as martyr and will be resurrected with and in the line of the martyrs (on the Resurrection Day).
iii)one who recites the three Surahs beginning with Ta-Sin at Friday nights will be included with the intimate saints of Almighty Allah, will be made in the vicinity and under the protection of Him, will never be inflicted with misery in his worldly life, and will be given beyond his pleasure on the Resurrection Day.
iv)one who recites Surah al-Sajdah at Friday nights will be given his Record of Deeds in his right hand, will not be interrogated about his evildoings, and will be included with the companions of Muhammad and his Household—peace be upon them all.
v)one who recites on Fridays or at Friday nights Surah al-Ahqaf will be saved, by Almighty Allah, from terrors in the worldly life and will be secured from the horror of the Resurrection Day.
vi)one who recites Surah al-Waqiah at Friday nights will be loved by Almighty Allah, all people will be made to love him, will be saved from all miseries, poverty, neediness, and misfortunes in this worldly life, and will be joined to the companions of Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu'minin (as) because this Surah is ascribed to him
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (peace be upon him) is reported to have said that one who recites Surah Sad at Friday nights will be granted the welfare of this world as well as the Next World in such an excellent way that none would deserve except Prophets and archangels and will be allowed to Paradise as well as all those whom he loves among his household including the servants.
It has been also narrated that to recite Surah al-Jumu`ah at Friday nights is decided as expiation (forgiving the sins) for the evildoings committed throughout the week. A similar merit has been narrated for reciting Surah al-Kahf at Friday nights or after the two obligatory Dhuhr and `Asr Prayers on Fridays.
It is worth mentioning that it is highly recommended to offer many (supererogatory) prayers at Friday nights such as;
Imam `Ali’s Prayer, known as (Salat Amir al-Mu'minin)
A two-unit prayer in each of which one should recite Surah al-Fatihah once and repeat Surah al-Zalzalah (No. 99) fifteen times.
It has been narrated that one who offers this prayer will be saved, by Almighty Allah, from the grave torment and the horrors on the Resurrection Day.
A two-unit prayer in each of which after Sura Hamd, recite Sura Tawheed 70 times.
Upon completion of the prayer say 'Astaghfirullah' 70 times.
It has been reported from the Holy Prophet, 'If one recites (this prayer) then by the One Who has sent me with truth anyone who performs this act and does Isteghfar then even if he supplicates for my whole nation the Almighty would accept his supplication and would enter the whole nation in Paradise. Allah grants him for each letter in the astagfirullah domes like stars in the sky, in each dome of the palaces by the number of stars in the sky, in each palace by the number of stars in the sky - chests, in each chest by the number of stars in the sky, beds, on each the bed was covered with blankets by the number of stars in the sky, etc ..., and Allah will bestow all these rewards on those who perform these two raka'ats.' A six-unit prayer in each of which after Surah Hamd recite Ayatul Kursi and Surah Kafiroon once each and Surah Tawheed thrice.
After the prayers, recite Ayatul Kursi three times.
For one who recites this prayer the Almighty Allah appoints an angel to purify his sins who purifies his sins and in their place writes good fortune and bestows him whatever he desires.
Quoting the book of Kunuz al-Najah by Shaykh al-Yabrisi, the author of al-Najm al-Thaqib mentioned the following statement to have come from Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) : “Whoever has a request to be urgently granted by Almighty Allah, may bathe himself after midnight at a Friday night, directs towards his place of prayer, and offers a two unit prayer. In the first unit, he may recite Surah al-Faatehah, but when he reaches this holy verse, iyyaaka na'budu wa iyyaaka nasta'eenhe should repeat it one hundred times
then recite the rukuh dhiker 7 times
subhaana rabbiyal-'azeemi wa bi-hamdih
then recite the sajdah dhiker 7 times
subhaana rabbiyal-a'laa wa bi-hamdih
Upon accomplishment of the prayer, he may beseech Almighty Allah using the below dua / supplicatory prayer. If he does, Almighty Allah will most certainly grant him his request unless it results in rupture of relations with one’s relatives:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ أَطَعْتُكَ فَالْمَحْمَدَةُ لَكَ
allaahumma in ata'tuka fal-mahmadatu lak
وَ إِنْ عَصَيْتُكَ فَالْحُجَّةُ لَكَ
wa in 'asaytuka fal-hujjatu lak
مِنْكَ الرَّوْحُ وَ مِنْكَ الْفَرَجُ
minkar-rawhu wa minkal-faraj
سُبْحَانَ مَنْ أَنْعَمَ وَ شَكَرَ
subhaana man an'ama wa shakar
سُبْحَانَ مَنْ قَدَرَ وَ غَفَرَ
subhaana man qadara wa ghafar
اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتُ عَصَيْتُكَ
allaahumma in kuntu 'asaytuk
فَإِنِّي قَدْ أَطَعْتُكَ فِي أَحَبِّ الْأَشْيَاءِ إِلَيْكَ
fa-innee qad ata'tuka fee ahabbi-lashyaa'i ilayk
وَ هُوَ الْإِيمَانُ بِكَ
wa huwal-eemaanu bik
لَمْ أَتَّخِذْ لَكَ وَلَدًا
lam attakhidh laka waladaa
وَ لَمْ أَدْعُ لَكَ شَرِيكًا
wa lam ad'u laka shareekaa
مَنّاً مِنْكَ بِهِ عَلَيَّ
mannam-minka bihee 'alayy
لَا مَنّاً مِنِّي بِهِ عَلَيْكَ
laa mannam-minnee bihee 'alayk
وَ قَدْ عَصَيْتُكَ يَا إِلٰهِي عَلَى غَيْرِ وَجْهِ الْمُكَابَرَةِ
wa qad 'asaytuka yaa ilaahee 'alaa ghayri wajhil-mukaabarah
وَ لَا الْخُرُوجِ عَنْ عُبُودِيَّتِكَ
wa lal-khurooji 'an 'uboodiyyatik
وَ لَا الْجُحُودِ لِرُبُوبِيَّتِكَ
wa lal-juhoodi li-ruboobiyyatik
وَ لٰكِنْ أَطَعْتُ هَوَايَ
wa laakin ata'tu hawaay
وَ أَزَلَّنِي الشَّيْطَانُ
wa azallanish-shaytaan
فَلَكَ الْحُجَّةُ عَلَيَّ وَ الْبَيَانُ
falakal-hujjatu 'alayya wal-bayaan
فَإِنْ تُعَذِّبْنِي فَبِذُنُوبِي غَيْرَ ظَالِمٍ
fa-in tu'adh-dhibnee fa-bi-dhunoobee ghayra zaalim
وَ إِنْ تَغْفِرْ لِي وَ تَرْحَمْنِي فَإِنَّكَ جَوَادٌ كَرِيمٌ
wa in taghfir lee wa tarhamnee fa-innaka jawaadun kareem
You may then repeat this word as much as one breathe takes:
ياكَريمُ ياكَريمُ
yaa kareemu yaa kareem
O Most Generous, O Most Generous!
then continue reciting the dua below
يَا آمِنًا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ
yaa aaminam-min kulli shay'
وَ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْكَ خَائِفٌ حَذِرٌ
wa kullu shay'im-minka khaa'ifun hadir
أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَمْنِكَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ
as-aluka bi-amnika min kulli shay'
وَ خَوْفِ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مِنْكَ
wa khawfi kulli shay'im-mink
أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
an tusalliya 'alaa muhammadiw-wa aali muhammad
وَ أَنْ تُعْطِيَنِي أَمَانًا لِنَفْسِي
wa an tu'tiyanee amaanal-linafsee
وَ أَهْلِي وَ مَالِي وَ وَلَدِي
wa ahlee wa maalee wa waladee
حَتَّى لَا أَخَافَ أَحَدًا
hattaa laa akhaafa ahadaa
وَ لَا أَحْذَرَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ أَبَدًا
wa laa ahdhara min shay'in abadaa
إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
innaka 'alaa kulli shay'in qadeer
وَ حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَ نِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
wa hasbunal-laahu wa ni'mal-wakeel
يَا كَافِيَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ نَمْرُودَ
yaa kaafiya ibraaheema namrood
وَ يَا كَافِيَ مُوسَى فِرْعَوْنَ
wa yaa kaafiya moosaa fir'awn
أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
as-aluka an tusalliya 'alaa muhammadiw-wa aali muhammad
وَ أَنْ تَكْفِيَنِي شَرَّ...
wa an takfiyanee sharra...
You may now mention the one whom you anticipate to harm you by name and the father’s name (i. e. so-and-so the son of so-and-so) and beseech Almighty Allah to repel his harm and save from his evils. Most certainly, Almighty Allah will do, if He wills.
Then, you may prostrate yourself, submit your request, and beseech Almighty Allah earnestly and purely. Verily, if any believing man or woman offers this prayer and says this supplicatory prayer, the doors to the heavens will be opened before him/her so that his/her requests will be granted and his/her prayer will be immediately responded, no matter what his/her prayer may be. This is one of the favors Almighty Allah has bestowed upon people and upon us."
