Recite Surah al-Anaam (no.6), al-Kahf (no.18) and Yaseen (no. 36)
Repeat 100 times
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إلَيْهِ.
Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilaih
I seek the forgiveness of Allah and I repent before Him.
Holy Prophet (S.A.) had advised to recite a 10 Rak-a’t Salaat, in 5 sets of two Rak-a’t each, on the last night of this month, as under:-
(i) In every Rak-a’t, after the recitation of Soorah Al Faatih’ah, recite Soorah Al Ikhlaas 10 times.
(ii) In every “Rukoo” and “Sajdah” recite the Tasbihat-e-arba 10 times:
سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ،وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ،وَلا إلهَ إلاَّ اللّهُ،وَاللّهُ أَكْبَرُ.
subhana allahi,walhamdu lillahi,wa la ilaha illa allahu,wallahu akbar
All glory be to Allah;all praise be to Allah;there is no god save Allah;Allah is the Greatest.
After the completion of the ten Rak`ahs, recite say one Thousand times:
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إلَيْهِ.
I seek the forgiveness of Allah and I repent before Him.
astaghfiru allaha wa atubu ilayhi
After that, prostrate and say the following:
يَا حَيّ يَا قَيّومُ،
ya hayyu ya qayyumu
O Ever-Alive, O Eternal,
يَا ذَا الجَلالِ وَالإِكرَامِ،
ya dhaljalali wal-ikrami
O the Lord of Majesty and Honor.
يَارَحْمَانَ الدّنيَا وَالآخِرَةِ وَرَحِيمَهُمَا،
yarahmana alddunya wal-akhirati wa rahimahuma
O the All-beneficent of this world and the Next World and the All-merciful of them;
يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ،
ya arhama alrrahimina
O the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.
يَاإِلهَ الأَوّلِينَ وَالآخِرِينَ،
ya ilah al-awwalina wal-akhirina
O the God of the past and the coming generations;
اغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا،
aghfir lana dhunubana
(Please) forgive us our sins,
وَتَقَبّلْ مِنَّا صَلاتَنَا وَصِيَامَنَا وَقِيَامَنَا.
wa taqabbl minna salatana wa siyamana wa qiyamana
And accept our prayers, fasting, and worship.
The Holy Prophet (a.s) then continues, “I swear by Him Who has sent me with the truth as Prophet; Archangel Gabriel has reported to me from Archangel Israfel who directly reports from Almighty Allah that one who offers that prayer will not raise his head from prostration before Almighty Allah would forgive him, accept his acts during the month of Ramadhan, and overlooks his sins... .”
ياللَّهُمَّ هٰذَا شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ ٱلَّذِي انْزَلْتَ فِيهِ ٱلْقُرْآنَ وَقَدْ تَصَرَّمَ
allahumma hadha shahru ramadana alladhi anzalta fihi alQur'ana wa qad tasarrama
O Allah, this month of Ramadhan in which You revealed the Qur'an is about to come to its end.
وَاعُوذُ بِوَجْهِكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ يَا رَبِّ
wa a`udhu biwajhika alkarimi ya rabbi
I seek refuge with Your Noble Face, O Lord,
انْ يَطْلُعَ ٱلْفَجْرُ مِنْ لَيْلَتِي هٰذِهِ
an yatlu`a alfajru min laylati hadhihi
that it dawns tonight
اوْ يَتَصَرَّمَ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ
aw yatasarrama shahru ramadana
or the month of Ramadhan elapses
وَلَكَ قِبَلِي تَبِعَةٌ اوْ ذَنْبٌ تُرِيدُ انْ تُعَذِّبَنِي بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقَاكَ
wa laka qibali tabi`atun aw dhanbun turidu an tu`adhdhibani bihi yawma alqaka
but I am still liable to an offense or a sin that You want to punish me for committing it when I will meet You.
Imam Jafar As Sadiq (as) short dua’a on the last night:
اللّهُمّ لا تَجْعَلْهُ آخِرَ العَهْدِ من صِيَامِي لِشَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ،
allahumma la taj`alhu akhira al`ahdi mn siyamy lishahri ramazana
O Allah: (please) do not decide my observance of fasting in this month of Ramazan to be the last of my(life's) observance of fasting.
وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ يَطْلُعَ فَجْرُ هذِهِ اللّيْلَةِ إِلاَّ وَقَدْ غَفَرْتَ لِي
wa a`udhu bika an yatlu`a fajru hadhihi allaylati illa wa qad ghafarta le
I take refuge with Thee lest the dawn of this night breaks forth without me having been positively forgiven.
Yaa madabbiral umoor
يَا مُدَبّرَ الأُمُورِ،
yaa madabbiral umoor
O the Director of all affairs;
يَا بَاعِثَ مَنْ فِي القُبُورِ،
yaa baa—i’tha man fil quboor
O the Resurrector of all those in graves;
يَا مُجْرِيَ البُحُورِ،
yaa mujriyal buh’oor
O He Who causes oceans to flow;
يَا مُلَيّنَ الحَدِيدِ لِدَاوُدَ
yaa mulayyinal h’adeedi li—dawood
O He Who made the iron pliant for (Prophet) David;
صَلّ عَلَى مُحَمّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمّدٍ…
s’aali a’laa muh’aamadin wa aali muh’ammad
(Please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad
Then Say: waf—a’lbee
And do for me (mention your legitimate desires)
اَللّهُمَّ إنَّكَ أرْحَمُ الرّاحِمينَ
Allahumma innaka arhamu alrrahimina
O Allah: verily, You are the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.
لا إلهَ إلاّ أنْتَ،
la ilaha illa anta,
There is no god save You.
تَفَضَّلْتَ عَلَيْنا فَهَدَيْتَنا،
tafaddalta `alayna fahadaytana,
You have done us the favor of guiding us (to the true path)
وَمَنَنْتَ عَلَيْنا فَعَرَّفْتَنا،
wa mananta `alayna fa`arraftana,
And You have bestowed upon us with the favor of making us recognize You,
وَأحْسَنْتَ إلَيْنا فَأعَنْتَنا عَلى أداءِ ما افْتَرَضْتَ عَلَيْنا
wa ahsanta ilayna faa`antana `ala ada‘i ma aftaradta `alayna
And You have done us the grace of helping us carry out that which You have made obligatory upon us,
مِنْ صِيامِ شَهْرِكَ شَهْرِ رَمَضانَ.
min siyami shahrika shahri Ramadhana.
Which is the observance of fasting during Your month; the month of Ramadhan.
فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ بِمَحامِدِكَ كُلِّها
falaka alhamdu bimahamidika kulliha
So, all praise be to You with the all forms of praising You,
عَلى جَميعِ نَعْمائِكَ كُلِّها،
`ala jami`i na`maiika kulliha,
For all of Your bounties,
حَتّى يَنْتَهِيَ الْحَمْدُ إلى ما تُحِبُّ وَتَرْضى
hatti yantahiia alhamdu ili ma tuhibbu wa tardi
So that praise will attain the stage that You like and please.
وَهذا آخِرُ يَوْمٍ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضانَ
wa hadha akhiru yawmin min shahri Ramadhana
And this is the last day in the month of Ramadhan;
فَإذا انْقَضى فَاخْتِمْهُ لَنا بِالسَّعادَةِ وَالرَّحْمَةِ وَالمَغْفِرَةِ،
faidha anqadi faakhtimhu lana bialssa`adati wa alrrahmaati wa almaghfirati,
If ite lapses, then (please) seal it for us with happiness and mercy and forgiveness
وَالرِّزْقِ الواسِعِ الكَثيرِ الطَّيِّبِ،
wa alrrizqi aluasi`i alkathiri alttayyibi,
And sustenance that is expansive, abundant and pleasant,
الَّذي لا حِسابَ فيهِ وَلا عَذابَ عَلَيهِ،
alladhy la hisaba fihi wa la `adhaba `alayhi,
For which You will not settle an account with nor will You torture us,
وَالبَرَكَةِ وَالفَوْزِ وَالفَوْزِ بِالجَنَّةِ،
wa albarakaati wa alfawzi wa alfawzi bialjannaati,
And (also) blessing and triumph and winning Paradise
وَالعِتْقِ مِنَ النّارِ،
wa al`itqi mina alnnari,
And release from Hellfire.
وَلا تَجْعَلْهُ آخِرَ العَهْدِ مِنْهُ،
wa la taj`alhu akhira al`ahdi minhu,
And (please) do not decide this month to be the last one in our lifetimes,
وَأهِلَّهُ عَلَينا بِأفْضَلِ الْخَيْرِ وَالبَرَكَةِ وَالسُّرورِ
wa ahillahu `alayna bi-afdali alkhayri wa albarakaati wa alssururi
And (please) make the (coming) month to commence carrying to us the best of goodness and blessing and pleasure
عَلَيَّ وَعَلى أَهْلي وَوالِدَيَّ وَذُرِّيَّتي يا كَريمُ.
`alayya wa `ala aahly wa walidayya wa dhurriiiaty ya karimu.
For me and for my family (i.e. wife) and for my parents and for my offspring; O the All-generous (Lord).
اَللّهُمَّ هذا شَهْرُ رَمَضانَ
aalllhumma hadha shahru Ramadhana
O Allah: This is the month of Ramadhan,
الَّذي أنْزَلْتَ فيهِ القُرْآنَ
alladhy anzalta fihi alqurana
In which You revealed the Qur'an
هُدىً لِلنّاسِ وَبَيِّناتٍ مِن الهُدى وَالفُرْقانِ
hudian lilnnasi wa bayyinatin min alhudi wa alfurqani
As guidance for people and as clear proofs of true guidance and distinction (between the right and the wrong).
وَقَدْ تَصَرَّمَ،
waqad tasarrama,
And it has come to its end;
فَأعوذُ بِوَجْهِكَ الكَريمِ أنْ تَغيبَ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ هذا اليَوْمِ،
faa`udhu biuajhika alkarimi an taghiba alshshamsu min hadha aliawmi,
Therefore, I seek the protection of Your Noble Face against that the sun sets on this day
أوْ يَطْلُعَ الفَجْرُ مِنْ هذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ،
aw yatlu`a alfajru min hdhihi alllaylaati,
Or dawn rises to put end to this night
وَلَكَ قِبَلي ذَنْبٌ أوْ تَبِعَةٌ،
wa laka qibaly dhanbun aw tabi`aatun,
But I am still liable for a sin or an offense
تُريدُ أنْ تُعَذِّبَني عَلَيْها يَومَ ألْقاكَ.
turidu an tu`adhdhibany `alayha yawma alqaka.
And You want to punish me for it on the day when I will meet You.
أيْ مُلَيِّنَ الْحَديدِ لِداوُدَ،
ay mulayyina alhadidi lidawuda,
O He Who made the iron pliant for (Prophet) David;
أيْ كاشِفَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ عَنْ أيُّوبَ،
ay kashifa alkarbi al`azhiimi `an ayyuwba,
O He Who removed the great agony from (Prophet) Job;
صَلِّ عَلى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلى أهْلِ بَيْتِ مُحَمَّدٍ
salli `ala muhammadin wa `ala ahli bayti muhammadin
(please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad
وَهَبْ لي فِكاكَ رَقَبَتي مِنَ النّارِ
wa hab ly fikaka raqabaty mina alnnari
And grant me release from Hellfire
وَكُلَّ تَبِعَةٍ وَذَنْبٍ لَكَ قِبَلي،
wa kulla tabi`aatin wa dhanbin laka qibali,
And from all offenses and sins for which I am liable before You
وَاخْتِمْ لي بِالرِّضا وَالْجَنَّةِ.
wakhtim ly bilrrida waljannati.
And (please) seal my life with Your satisfaction and Paradise.
يا اَللهُ يا أرْحَمَ الرّاحِمينَ،
ya aallhu ya arhama alrrahimina,
O Allah: O the most Merciful of all those who show mercy;
صَلِّ عَلى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلى أهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الْمُبارَكِينَ الأخْيارِ
salli `ala muhammadin wa`ala ahli baytihi almubarakiina al-akhyari
(please) send blessings upon Muhammad and upon his Household—the blessed and the virtuous—
وَسَلِّمْ تَسْليماً.
wa sallim tasliman.
And shower upon them thorough greeting.
Reported by Shaykh al-Tusi from Imam `Ali Amer al-Mu'mineen (a.s):
اللّهُمّ اشْرَحْ بِالقُرْآنِ صَدْرِي،
allahumma ashrah bilqur’ani sadri
O Allah: (please) expand my breast through the Qur'an
وَاسْتَعْمِلْ بِالقُرْآنِ بَدَنِي،
wasta`mil bilqur’ani badani
And use my body for the Qur'an
وَنَوّرْ بِالقُرْآنِ بَصَرِي،
wa nawwir bilqur’ani basari
And enlighten my sight by the Qur'an
وَأَطْلِقْ بِالقُرْآنِ لِسَانِي،
wa atliq bilqur’ani lisani
And make my tongue eloquent by the Qur'an
وَأَعِنّي عَلَيْهِ مَا أَبْقَيْتَنِي
wa a`inni `alayhi ma abqaytany
And help me carry out its duty as long as You keep me alive,
فَإِنّهُ لا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوّةَ إِلاَّ بِكَ.
fa’innahu la hawla wa la quwwata illa bika
For there is neither power nor might save with You.
It is recommended, too, to say the following supplication that is reported from Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu'mineen (a.s):
اللّهُمّ إِنّي أَسْأَلُكَ إِخْبَاتَ المُخْبِتِينَ،
allahumma inni as’aluka ikhbata almukhbitina
O Allah: I do beseech You for the humbleness of those who humble themselves before You;
وَإِخْلاصَ المُوقِنِينَ،
wa ikhlasa almuqinina
and for the sincerity of those possessing certainty;
وَمُرَافَقَةَ الأَبْرَارِ،
wa murafaqata alabrari
and for the companionship of the pious ones;
وَاسْتِحْقَاقَ حَقَائِقِ الاِيمَانِ،
wastihqaqa haqa’iqi al’imani
and for the worthiness of the truths of faith;
وَالغَنِيمَةَ مِنْ كُلّ بِرّ،
wal-ghanimata min kulli birrin
and for gaining a share of all pious deeds;
وَالسّلامَةَ مِنْ كُلّ إِثْمٍ،
wal-ssalamata min kulli ithmin
and for safety from all sins;
وَوُجُوبَ رَحْمَتِكَ،
wa wujuba rahmatika
and for the merit of Your mercy;
وَعَزَائِمَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ،
wa `aza’ima maghfiratika
and for the qualifications of winning Your forgiveness;
وَالفَوْزَ بِالجَنّةِ،
wal-fawza biljannati
and for winning Paradise;
وَالنّجَاةَ مِنَ النَّارِ.
wal-nnajata mina alnnari
and for salvation from Hellfire.
اَللّهُمَّ إنَّكَ قُلْتَ فِي كِتابِكَ الْمُنْزَلِ:
allahumma innaka qulta fiy kitabika almunzali:
O Allah: You have said in Your revealed Book:
”شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ.“
“shahru Ramadhana alladhiy unzila fihi alqur’anu.”
“The month of Ramadhan in which the Quran was revealed…”
وَهذَا شَهْرُ رَمَضانَ
wahadha shahru Ramadhana
And this month of Ramadhan
وَقَدْ تَصَرَّمَ
waqad tasarrama
is about to slip away.
فَأسْألُكَ بِوَجْهِكَ الْكَرِيمِ
fasaluka biuajhika alkarimi
I thus beseech You in the name of Your Noble Face,
وَكَلِماتِكَ التّامَّةِ
wakalimatika alttammati
And Your Perfect Words,
إنْ كانَ بَقِيَ عَلَيَّ ذَنْبٌ لَمْ تَغْفِرْهُ لي
in kana baqia `alayya dhanbun lam taghfirhu li
If I am still liable to a sin that You have not yet forgiven
أوْ تُرِيدُ أنْ تُعَذِّبَنِي عَلَيْهِ
aw turidu an tu`adhdhibaniy `alayhi
or You want to punish me for it,
أوْ تُقايِسَنِي بِهِ
aw tuqayisaniy bihi
or to retaliate upon me because of it,
أنْ لا يَطْلُعَ فَجْرُ هَذِهِ اللَيْلَةِ
an la yatlu`a fajru hadhihii allaylati
(I beseech You that) before dawn of this night rises
أوْ يَتَصَرَّمُ هذا الشَّهْرُ
aw yatasarramu hdha alshshahru
And before this moth elapses
إلاَّ وَقَدْ غَفَرْتَهُ لي
illa waqad ghafartahu li
(please) forgive it for me;
يا أرْحَمَ الرّاحِمِينَ.
ya arhama alrrahimina.
O the most Merciful of all those who show mercy.
اَللّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ بِمَحامِدِكَ كُلِّها
allahumma laka alhamdu bimahamidika kulliha
O Allah: all praise be to You in all expressions of praise—
أوَّلِها وَآخِرِها
awwaliha wa-akhiriha
The first and the last expressions;
ما قُلْتَ لِنَفْسِكَ مِنْها
ma qulta linafsika minha
Expressions that You have said about Yourself,
وَما قالَ الْخَلائِقُ الْحامِدونَ
wama qala alkhalaiiqu alhamiduna
And expressions that have been used by the created beings;
الْمُجْتَهِدونَ الْمَعْدودونَ
almujtahiduna alma`duduna
The beings that are diligent, selected,
الْمُوَقِّرونَ ذِكْرِكَ
almuwaqqiruna dhikrika
Revering their mention of You,
وَالشُّكْرَ لَكَ
walshshukra laka
And their thanking You,
الَّذينَ أعَنْتَهُمْ عَلى أداءِ حَقِّكَ
alladhina a`antahum `ala ada‘i haqqika
Whom You helped carry out Your duty that is incumbent upon them,
مِنْ أصْنافِ خَلْقِكَ
min asnafi khalqika
From among the varieties of Your creatures;
مِنَ الْمَلائِكَةِ الْمُقَرَّبينَ
mina almalaiikati almuqarrabina
Such as the Favorite Angels,
وَالنَّبِيِّينَ وَالْمُرْسَلِينَ
walnnabiyyina walmursalina
The Prophets, the Messengers,
وَأصْنافِ النّاطِقينَ
wa-asnafi alnnatiqina
And the other varieties who speak of Your praise
وَالْمُسَبِّحِينَ لَكَ مِنْ جَمِيعِ الْعالَمِينَ
walmusabbihina laka min jami`i al`alamina
And glorify You from among all the creatures.
عَلى أنَّكَ بَلَّغْتَنا شَهْرَ رَمَضانَ
`ala annaka ballaghtana shahra Ramadhana
(Praise be to You for) You have allowed us to witness the month of Ramadhan,
وَعَلَيْنا مِنْ نِعَمِكَ
wa`alayna min ni`amika
While we are covered by Your graces
وَعِنْدَنا مِنْ قِسَمِكَ وَإحْسانِكَ
wa`indana min qisamika waihsanika
And we are enjoying Your bounties and favors
وَتَظاهُرِ إمْتِنانِكَ
watazhahuri imtinanika
And Your evident conferrals.
فَبِذَلِكَ لَكَ مُنْتَهى الْحَمْدِ
fabidhalika laka muntaha alhamdi
For all that, the ultimate praise be to You,
الْخالِدِ الدّائِمِ
alkhalidi alddaiimi
Praise that is perpetual and ceaseless
الرّاكِدِ الْمُخَلَّدِ السَّرْمَدِ
alrrakidi almukhalladi alssarmadi
And endless and eternal and everlasting
الَّذي لا يَنْفَدُ طُولَ الأبَدِ
alladhy la yanfadu tuwla alabadi
Praise that never ends evermore.
جَلَّ ثَناؤكَ
jalla thanau´ka
Splendid be the praising of You,
أعَنْتَنا عَلَيْهِ حَتّى قَضَيْنا صِيامَهُ وَقِيامَهُ
a`antana `alayhi hatta qadayna syamahu waqyamahu
For You have helped us accomplish our fasting and acts of worship in this month,
مِنْ صَلاةٍ وَما كانَ مِنّا فيهِ مِنْ بِرٍّ
min salatin wama kana minna fihi min birrin
Including prayers and whatever good deed that we have done during this month
أوْ شُكْرٍ أوْ ذِكْرٍ.
aw shukrin aw dhikrin.
As well as all praise and mention of You.
اَللّهُمَّ فَتَقَبَّلْهُ مِنّا بِأحْسَنِ قَبولِكَ
allahumma fataqabbalhu minna biahsani qabulika
O Allah: (please) accept all that from us with the most excellent of Your approval
وَتَجاوُزِكَ وَعَفْوِكَ
watajauuzika wa`afuika
And Your overlooking and Your pardoning
وَصَفْحِكَ وَغُفْرانِكَ
wasafhika waghufranika
And Your excusing and Your forgiving
وَحَقِيقَةِ رِضْوانِكَ
wahaqiqati riduanika
And the actuality of Your pleasure
حَتّى تُظْفِرَنا فِيهِ بِكُلِّ خَيْرٍ مَطْلوبٍ
hatta tuzhfirana fihi bikulli khayrin matlubin
So that You may make us win all good turns that is besought
وَجَزيلِ عَطاءٍ مَوهُوبٍ
wajazili `ata‘in mawhuwbin
And the abundant share from any gifted bestowal
وَتُوَقِّيَنا فِيهِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَرْهوبٍ
watuwaqqiana fihi min kulli marhubin
And that You save us from any dangerous matter,
أوْ بَلاءٍ مَجْلوبٍ
aw bala‘in majlubin
Or any anticipated misfortune
أوْ ذَنْبٍ مَكْسوبٍ.
aw dhanbin maksubin.
Or any committed sin.
اَللّهُمَّ إنّي أسْألُكَ بِعَظيمِ ما سَألَكَ بِهِ أحَدٌ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ
allahumma inny asaluka bi`azhimi ma sa-alaka bihi ahadun min khalqika
O Allah: I beseech You in the name of the greatest of all these by which any of Your servants have besought You,
مِنْ كَريمِ أسْمائِكَ
min karimi asmaiika
Including Your Noble Names,
وَجَميلِ ثَنائِكَ
wajamili thanaiika
And the excellent praising of You
وَخاصَّةِ دُعائِكَ
wakhassati du`a’ika
And private supplication to You
أنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
an tusallia `ala Muhammadin wa-ali Muhammadin
That You may send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَأنْ تَجْعَلَ شَهْرَنا هَذا أعْظَمَ شَهْرِ رَمَضانَ مَرَّ عَلَيْنا
wa-an taj`ala shahrana hadha a`zhama shahri Ramadhana marra `alayna
And You may decide this month of Ramadhan to be the greatest month in blessings that we have ever witnessed
مُنْذُ أُنْزِلْنا إلى الدُّنْيا بَرَكَةً
mundhu aunzilna ila alddunya barakatan
Since we were sent down to this world,
في عِصْمَةِ دِينِي
fy `ismati dini
As regarding protection of my religion,
وَخَلاصِ نَفْسِي
wakhalasi nafsi
And redemption of myself
وَقَضاءِ حَوائِجِي
waqada‘i hawa’iji
And settlement of my needs
وَتُشَفِّعَنِي في مَسائِلِي
watushaffi`aniy fy masa’ili
And that You may accept my intercession to You concerning Your settlement of my requests
وَتَمامِ النِّعْمَةِ عَلَيَّ
watamami alnni`mati `alayya
And Your perfecting Your graces upon me
وَصَرْفِ السّوءِ عَنّي
wasarfi alssu‘i `anni
And Your keeping evil away from me
وَلِباسِ الْعافِيَةِ لي فِيهِ
walibasi al`afiati ly fihi
And Your dressing me with well-being during this month,
وَأنْ تَجْعَلَني بِرَحْمَتِكَ مِمَّنْ خِرْتَ لَهُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ
wan taj`alany birahmatika mimman khirta lahu laylata alqadri
And that You may include me, out of Your mercy, with those whom You allowed to obtain the benefits of the Grand Night
وَجَعَلْتَها لَهُ خَيْراً مِنْ ألْفِ شَهْرٍ
waja`altaha lahu khayran min alfi shahrin
And those for whom You have decided this Night to be better than one thousand months,
في أعْظَمِ الأجْرِ
fy a`zhami alajri
As regarding obtaining its vastest rewards,
وَكَرائِمِ الذُّخْرِ
wakaraiimi aldhdhukhri
And its noblest gifts
وَحُسْنِ الشُّكْرِ
wahusni alshshukri
And approving praiseworthiness
وَطولِ العُمْرِ
watuli al`umri
And obtaining long lifetime
وَدَوامِ الْيُسْرِ.
wadawami aliusri.
And perpetuity of comfort.
اَللّهُمَّ وَأسْألُكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ وَطَوْلِكَ
allahumma wasaluka birahmatika watawlika
O Allah: I also beseech You in the name of Your mercy and Your beneficence
وَعَفْوِكَ وَنَعْمائِكَ
wa`afuika wana`maiika
And Your pardon and Your graces
وَجَلالِكَ وَقديمِ إحْسانِكَ وَامْتِنانِكَ
wajalalika waqdimi ihsanika wamtinanika
And Your majesty and Your eternal favoring and conferral
أنْ لا تَجْعِلَهُ آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنّا لِشَهْرِ رَمَضانَ
an la taj`ilahu akhira al`ahdi minna lishahri Ramadhana
That You may not decide this month of Ramadhan to be the last one in our lifetime;
حَتّى تُبَلِّغَناهُ مِنْ قابِلٍ عَلى أحْسَنِ حالٍ
hatta tuballighanahu min qabilin `ala ahsani halin
Rather, You may decide us to catch the coming month of Ramadhan while we enjoy the best of manners
وَتُعَرِّفَني هِلالَهُ مَعَ النّاظِرِينَ إلَيْهِ وَالْمُعْتَرِفينَ لَهُ
watu`arrifany hilalahu ma`a alnnazhirina ilayhi walmu`tarifina lahu
And that You may decide us to see the new moon of the next month of Ramadhan by including me with those who will see it and realize its value
في أعْفى عافِيَتِكَ
fy a`fa `afiatika
While I am enjoying the best wellbeing
وَأنْعَمِ نِعْمَتِكَ
wan`ami ni`matika
And the most blissful of Your bounties
وَأوْسَعِ رَحْمَتِكَ
Wa’awsa`i rahmatika
And the most expansive of Your mercy
وَأجْزَلِ قِسَمِكَ
wajzali qisamika
And the most abundant of the share of Your sustenance that You decide for me.
يا رَبِّيَ الَّذي لَيْسَ لي رَبٌّ غَيْرُهُ
ya rabbia alladhy laysa ly rabbun ghayruhu
O my Lord save Whom I have no lord;
لا يَكونُ هَذا الوَداعُ مِنّي لَهُ وَداعَ فَناءٍ
la yakunu hadha aluada`u minny lahu wada`a fana‘in
(please) do not decide that this words of bidding the month of Ramadhan farewell to be the last farewell after which there will be my termination
وَلا آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنّي لِلِّقاءِ
wala akhira al`ahdi minny lilliqa‘i
And do not decide this time to be the last of my meeting the month of Ramadhan;
حَتّى تُرِيَنّيهِ مِنْ قابِلٍ في أوْسَعِ النِّعَمِ وأفْضَلِ الرَّجاءِ
hatta turiannihi min qabilin fy awsa`i alnni`ami wafdali alrraja‘i
Rather, You may decide that You will enable me to witness the coming Ramadhan while I am enjoying the most expansive graces and attaining the best of my hopes
وأنَا لَكَ عَلى أحْسَنِ الْوَفاءِ
wana laka `ala ahsani aluafa‘i
And I am loyal to You in the most faithful manner.
إنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعاءِ.
innaka sami`u alddu`a‘i.
Verily, You are the Hearer of prayers.
اَللّهُمَّ اسْمَعْ دُعائي
allahumma asma` du`a’i
O Allah: (please) respond to my prayer,
وَارْحَمْ تَضَرُّعي وَتَذَلُّلي لَكَ
warham tadarru`y watadhalluly laka
And have mercy upon my acquiescence and submission before You
وَاسْتِكانَتِي وَتَوَكُّلي عَلَيْكَ
wastikanatiy watawakkuly `alayka
As well as my humbleness and reliance upon You,
وَأنا لَكَ مُسَلِّمٌ
wana laka musallimun
While I am totally subservient to You;
لا أرْجو نَجاحاً وَلا مُعافاةً
la arjw najahan wala mu`afatan
I hope success and wellbeing
وَلا تَشْريفاً وَلا تَبْليغاً إلاَّ بِكَ وَمِنْكَ
wala tashrifan wala tablighan illa bika waminka
And honoring and attainment of my hopes from none save You and through none save You;
فَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ
famnun `alayya
So, (please) do this favor to me—
جَلَّ ثَناؤكَ
jalla thanau´ka
Splendid be the praising of You,
وَتَقَدَّسَتْ أسْماؤكَ
wataqaddasat asmau´ka
And sacred be Your Names—
بِتَبْليغي شَهْرَ رَمَضانَ وَأنا مُعافىً مِنْ كُلِّ مَكْروهٍ وَمَحْذورٍ
bitablighy shahra Ramadhana wana mu`afan min kulli makruhin wamahdhurin
By allowing me to witness the (coming) month of Ramadhan while I am delivered from any apprehensive and fearful matter
وَمِنْ جَمِيعِ البَوائِقِ،
wamin jami`i albawa’iqi,
And from all misfortunes.
اَلْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذي أعانَنا عَلى صِيامِ هَذا الشَّهْرِ وَقِيامِهِ
alhamdu lillahi alladhy a`anana `ala syami hadhaalshshahri waqyamihi
All praise be to Allah Who has helped us observe fasting during this month and do acts of worship
حَتّى بَلَّغَني آخِرَ لَيْلَةٍ مِنْهُ.
hatta ballaghany akhira laylatin minhu.
Until I am witnessing the last night of this month.
Al-Sheikh Abu Ja‟far al-Tusi – may God have mercy upon him – said the following in his own handwriting in his original book from which I have reported this farewell supplication. Al-Kolayni narrated it and Ibrahim ibn Ishaq al-Ahmary narrated it on the authority of Abdullah ibn Himad al-Ansary, on the authority of Abi Basir. The same supplication has also been reported by some of his companions, on the authority of Sa‟dan ibn Muslim, on the authority of Abi Basir, on the authority of Abi Abdullah As-Sadiq (as) with the following.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَحَبِّ مَا دُعِيتَ بِهِ
Allahumma inni as-aluka bi-ahabbi ma du'ita bihi
O Allah, I ask You by the most beloved of that which You are called by
وَ أَرْضَى مَا رَضِيتَ بِهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ
wa arda ma radita bihi 'an Muhammadin sallallahu 'alayhi wa alihi
and the most pleasing of what You are pleased with for Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family
أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
an tusalliya 'ala Muhammadin wa ali Muhammad
that You send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad
وَ لَا تَجْعَلْ وَدَاعِي وَدَاعَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ وَدَاعَ خُرُوجِي مِنَ الدُّنْيَا
wa la taj'al wada'i wada'a shahri ramadana wada'a khuruji minad-dunya
and do not make my farewell to the month of Ramadan a farewell to my departure from this world
وَ لَا وَدَاعَ آخِرِ عِبَادَتِكَ فِيهِ وَ لَا آخِرِ صَوْمِي لَكَ
wa la wada'a akhiri 'ibadatika fihi wa la akhira sawmi laka
nor the farewell of my last worship in it, nor my last fast for You
وَ ارْزُقْنِي الْعَوْدَ فِيهِ ثُمَّ الْعَوْدَ فِيهِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا وَلِيَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
war-zuqnil-'awda fihi thummal-'awda fihi bi-rahmatika ya waliyyal-mu'minin
and grant me the chance to return to it again and again, by Your mercy, O Guardian of the believers
وَ وَفِّقْنِي فِيهِ لِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ
wa waffiqni fihi li-laylatil-qadr
and grant me success in it to reach the Night of Qadr
وَ اجْعَلْهَا لِي خَيْراً مِنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ
waj'al-ha li khayran min alfi shahr ya rabbal-'alamin
and make it for me better than a thousand months, O Lord of the worlds
يَا رَبَّ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ وَ جَاعِلَهَا خَيْراً مِنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ
ya rabba laylatil-qadri wa ja'ilaha khayran min alfi shahr
O Lord of the Night of Qadr, Who made it better than a thousand months
رَبَّ اللَّيْلِ وَ النَّهَارِ وَ الْجِبَالِ وَ الْبِحَارِ
rabbal-layli wan-nahari wal-jibali wal-bihar
Lord of the night and the day, the mountains and the seas
وَ الظُّلَمِ وَ الْأَنْوَارِ وَ الْأَرْضِ وَ السَّمَاءِ
waz-zulami wal-anwari wal-ardi was-sama'
and the darkness and the lights, the earth and the heaven
يَا بَارِئُ يَا مُصَوِّرُ يَا حَنَّانُ يَا مَنَّانُ يَا اللَّهُ
ya bari'u ya musawwiru ya hannanu ya mannanu ya Allah
O Creator, O Shaper, O Compassionate, O Benefactor, O Allah
يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا رَحِيمُ يَا قَيُّومُ يَا بَدِيعُ
ya rahmanu ya rahimu ya qayyumu ya badi'u
O Most Gracious, O Most Merciful, O Self-Sustaining, O Originator
لَكَ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى وَ الْأَمْثَالُ الْعُلْيَا وَ الْكِبْرِيَاءُ وَ الْآلَاءُ
lakal-asma'ul-husna wal-amthalul-'ulya wal-kibriya'u wal-ala'
to You belong the most beautiful names, the highest examples, greatness, and bounties
أَسْأَلُكَ بِاسْمِكَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ
as-aluka bismika bismillahir-rahmanir-rahim
I ask You by Your name, In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
an tusalliya 'ala Muhammadin wa ali Muhammad
to send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad
وَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ اسْمِي فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ فِي السُّعَدَاءِ
wa an taj'ala ismi fi hadhihil-laylati fis-su'ada'
and to place my name on this night among the fortunate ones
وَ رُوحِي مَعَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَ إِحْسَانِي فِي عِلِّيِّينَ
wa ruhi ma'ash-shuhada'i wa ihsani fi 'illiyyin
and my soul with the martyrs, and my good deeds in the highest ranks
وَ إِسَاءَتِي مَغْفُورَةً
wa isa'ati maghfura
and my misdeeds forgiven
وَ أَنْ تَهَبَ لِي يَقِيناً تُبَاشِرُ بِهِ قَلْبِي
wa an tahaba li yaqinan tubashiru bihi qalbi
and to grant me a certainty that touches my heart
وَ إِيمَاناً لَا يَشُوبُهُ شَكٌّ وَ رِضًا بِمَا قَسَمْتَ لِي
wa imanan la yashubuhu shakkun wa ridan bima qasamta li
and a faith untainted by doubt, and contentment with what You have allotted for me
وَ أَنْ تُؤْتِيَنِي فِي الدُّنْيا حَسَنَةً وَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً
wa an tu'tiyani fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan
and to give me good in this world and good in the Hereafter
وَ أَنْ تَقِيَنِي عَذَابَ النَّارِ
wa an taqiyani 'adhaban-nar
and to protect me from the punishment of the Fire
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِيمَا تَقْضِي وَ تُقَدِّرُ مِنَ الْأَمْرِ الْمَحْتُومِ
Allahummaj-'al fima taqdi wa tuqaddiru minal-amril-mahtum
O Allah, among what You decree and ordain of the inevitable matters
وَ فِيمَا تَفْرُقُ مِنَ الْأَمْرِ الْحَكِيمِ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ
wa fima tafruqu minal-amril-hakimi fi laylatil-qadr
and among what You distinguish of the wise matters on the Night of Qadr
فِي الْقَضَاءِ الَّذِي لَا يُرَدُّ وَ لَا يُبَدَّلُ وَ لَا يُغَيَّرُ
fil-qada'illadhi la yuraddu wa la yubaddalu wa la yughayyaru
in the decree that is not reversed, nor changed, nor altered
أَنْ تَكْتُبَنِي مِنْ حُجَّاجِ بَيْتِكَ الْحَرَامِ
an taktubani min hujjaji baytikal-haram
that You write me among the pilgrims of Your Sacred House
الْمَبْرُورِ حَجُّهُمُ الْمَشْكُورِ سَعْيُهُمُ الْمَغْفُورِ ذَنْبُهُمُ
al-mabruri hajjuhumul-mashkuri sa'yuhumul-maghfuri dhanbuhum
whose Hajj is accepted, whose efforts are appreciated, and whose sins are forgiven
الْمُكَفَّرِ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّئَاتُهُمْ
al-mukaffari 'anhum sayyi'atuhum
whose evil deeds are expiated
وَ اجْعَلْ فِيمَا تَقْضِي وَ تُقَدِّرُ أَنْ تُطِيلَ عُمُرِي
waj'al fima taqdi wa tuqaddiru an tutila 'umuri
and include in what You decree and ordain the lengthening of my life
وَ أَنْ تُعْتِقَ رَقَبَتِي مِنَ النَّارِ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
wa an tu'tiqa raqabati minan-nari ya arhamar-rahimin
and the freeing of my neck from the Fire, O Most Merciful of the merciful
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ وَ لَمْ يَسْأَلِ الْعِبَادُ مِثْلَكَ جُوداً وَ كَرَماً
Allahumma inni as-aluka wa lam yas-alil-'ibadu mithlaka judan wa karaman
O Allah, I ask You—and the servants have not asked anyone like You in generosity and kindness
وَ أَرْغَبُ إِلَيْكَ وَ لَمْ يُرْغَبْ إِلَى مِثْلِكَ
wa arghabu ilayka wa lam yurghab ila mithlika
and I turn to You—and none like You has been turned to with such desire
أَنْتَ مَوْضِعُ مَسْأَلَةِ السَّائِلِينَ وَ مُنْتَهَى رَغْبَةِ الرَّاغِبِينَ
anta mawdi'u mas-alatis-sa'ilina wa muntaha raghbatir-raghibin
You are the object of the askers' requests and the ultimate desire of those who hope
أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَعْظَمِ الْمَسَائِلِ كُلِّهَا وَ أَفْضَلِهَا وَ أَنْجَحِهَا
as-aluka bi-a'zamil-masa'ili kulliha wa afdaliha wa anjahiha
I ask You by the greatest of all requests, the best of them, and the most successful of them
الَّتِي يَنْبَغِي لِلْعِبَادِ أَنْ يَسْأَلُوكَ بِهَا يَا اللَّهُ يَا رَحْمَانُ
allati yanbaghi lil-'ibadi an yas-aluka biha ya Allahu ya Rahman
by which it is fitting for servants to ask You, O Allah, O Most Gracious
وَ بِأَسْمَائِكَ مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهَا وَ مَا لَمْ أَعْلَمْ
wa bi-as-ma'ika ma 'alimtu minha wa ma lam a'lam
and by Your names, those I know of and those I do not know
وَ بِأَسْمَائِكَ الْحُسْنَى وَ أَمْثَالِكَ الْعُلْيَا
wa bi-as-ma'ikal-husna wa amthalikal-'ulya
and by Your beautiful names and Your sublime examples
وَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ الَّتِي لَا تُحْصَى
wa bi-ni'matikal-lati la tuhsa
and by Your blessings that cannot be counted
وَ بِأَكْرَمِ أَسْمَائِكَ عَلَيْكَ وَ أَحَبِّهَا إِلَيْكَ
wa bi-akrami as-ma'ika 'alayka wa ahabbiha ilayk
and by the most noble of Your names to You and the most beloved of them to You
وَ أَشْرَفِهَا عِنْدَكَ مَنْزِلَةً وَ أَقْرَبِهَا مِنْكَ وَسِيلَةً
wa ashrafiha 'indaka manzilatan wa aqrabiha minka wasilatan
and the most honorable in status with You and the closest in means to You
وَ أَجْزَلِهَا مِنْكَ ثَوَاباً وَ أَسْرَعِهَا لَدَيْكَ إِجَابَةً
wa ajzaliha minka thawaban wa as-ra'iha ladayka ijabatan
and the most abundant in reward from You and the quickest in response from You
وَ بِاسْمِكَ الْمَكْنُونِ الْمَخْزُونِ الْحَيِّ الْقَيُّومِ الْأَكْبَرِ الْأَجَلِّ
wa bismikal-maknunil-makhzunil-hayyil-qayyumil-akbaril-ajall
and by Your hidden, treasured name, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining, the Greatest, the Most Majestic
الَّذِي تُحِبُّهُ وَ تَهْوَاهُ وَ تَرْضَى عَمَّنْ دَعَاكَ بِهِ
alladhi tuhibbuhu wa tahwahu wa tarda 'amman da'aka bihi
which You love and favor, and are pleased with whoever calls You by it
وَ تَسْتَجِيبُ لَهُ دُعَاءَهُ وَ حَقٌّ عَلَيْكَ أَلَا تُخَيِّبَ سَائِلَكَ
wa tastajibu lahu du'a'ahu wa haqqun 'alayka alla tukhayyiba sa'ilaka
and You answer his prayer, and it is a right upon You not to disappoint Your asker
وَ أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ وَ الْإِنْجِيلِ وَ الزَّبُورِ وَ الْفُرْقَانِ
wa as-aluka bi-kulli ismin huwa laka fit-tawrati wal-injili waz-zaburi wal-furqan
and I ask You by every name that belongs to You in the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and the Quran
وَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ دَعَاكَ بِهِ حَمَلَةُ عَرْشِكَ وَ مَلَائِكَةُ سَمَاوَاتِكَ
wa bi-kulli ismin da'aka bihi hamalatu 'arshika wa mala'ikatu samawatik
and by every name by which the bearers of Your Throne and the angels of Your heavens have called You
وَ جَمِيعُ الْأَصْنَافِ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ أَوْ صِدِّيقٍ أَوْ شَهِيدٍ
wa jami'il-asnafi min khalqika min nabiyyin aw siddiqin aw shahid
and all classes of Your creation, whether prophet, truthful one, or martyr
وَ بِحَقِّ الرَّاغِبِينَ إِلَيْكَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ مِنْكَ الْمُتَعَوِّذِينَ بِكَ
wa bi-haqqir-raghibina ilaykal-muqarrabina minka al-muta'awwidhina bik
and by the right of those who desire You, are close to You, and seek refuge in You
وَ بِحَقِّ مُجَاوِرِي بَيْتِكَ الْحَرَامِ حُجَّاجاً وَ مُعْتَمِرِينَ وَ مُقَدِّسِينَ
wa bi-haqqi mujawiri baytikal-harami hujjajan wa mu'tamirina wa muqaddisin
and by the right of those dwelling near Your Sacred House, pilgrims, performers of Umrah, and sanctifiers
وَ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ فِي سَبِيلِكَ
wal-mujahidina fi sabilik
and those striving in Your path
وَ بِحَقِّ كُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُتَعَبِّدٍ لَكَ فِي بَرٍّ أَوْ بَحْرٍ أَوْ سَهْلٍ أَوْ جَبَلٍ
wa bi-haqqi kulli 'abdin muta'abbidin laka fi barrin aw bahrin aw sahlin aw jabal
and by the right of every servant worshipping You on land or sea, or plain or mountain
أَدْعُوكَ دُعَاءَ مَنْ قَدِ اشْتَدَّتْ فَاقَتُهُ وَ كَثُرَتْ ذُنُوبُهُ
ad'uka du'a'a man qadish-taddat faqatuhu wa kathurat dhunubuhu
I call upon You with the prayer of one whose need has become severe and whose sins have increased
وَ عَظُمَ جُرْمُهُ وَ ضَعُفَ كَدْحُهُ
wa 'azuma jurmuhu wa du'fa kad-huhu
and whose crime is great and whose effort is weak
دُعَاءَ مَنْ لَا يَجِدُ لِنَفْسِهِ سَادّاً وَ لَا لِضَعْفِهِ مُقَوِّياً
du'a'a man la yajidu li-nafsihi saddan wa la li-du'fihi muqawwiya
the prayer of one who finds no one to fill his void, nor any strengthener for his weakness
وَ لَا لِذَنْبِهِ غَافِراً غَيْرَكَ هَارِباً إِلَيْكَ مُتَعَوِّذاً بِكَ
wa la li-dhanbihi ghafiran ghayraka hariban ilayka muta'awwidhan bik
nor any forgiver for his sin except You, fleeing to You, seeking refuge in You
مُتَعَبِّداً لَكَ غَيْرَ مُسْتَكْبِرٍ وَ لَا مُسْتَنْكِفٍ
muta'abbidan laka ghayra mustakbirin wa la mustankif
worshipping You without arrogance or disdain
خَائِفاً بَائِساً فَقِيراً مُسْتَجِيراً بِكَ
kha'ifan ba'isan faqiran mustajiran bik
fearful, miserable, poor, seeking Your protection
أَسْأَلُكَ بِعِزَّتِكَ وَ عَظَمَتِكَ وَ جَبَرُوتِكَ وَ سُلْطَانِكَ
as-aluka bi-'izzatika wa 'azamatika wa jabarutika wa sultanik
I ask You by Your might, Your greatness, Your omnipotence, and Your authority
وَ بِمُلْكِكَ وَ بِبَهَائِكَ وَ جُودِكَ وَ كَرَمِكَ
wa bi-mulkika wa bi-baha'ika wa judika wa karamik
and by Your kingdom, Your splendor, Your generosity, and Your kindness
وَ بِآلَائِكَ وَ حُسْنِكَ وَ جَمَالِكَ
wa bi-ala'ika wa husnika wa jamalik
and by Your bounties, Your goodness, and Your beauty
وَ بِقُوَّتِكَ عَلَى مَا أَرَدْتَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ
wa bi-quwwatika 'ala ma aradta min khalqik
and by Your power over whatever You intend for Your creation
أَدْعُوكَ يَا رَبِّ خَوْفاً وَ طَمَعاً وَ رَهْبَةً وَ رَغْبَةً
ad'uka ya rabbi khawfan wa tama'an wa rahbatan wa raghbata
I call You, O Lord, in fear and hope, in awe and desire
وَ تَخَشُّعاً وَ تَمَلُّقاً وَ تَضَرُّعاً وَ إِلْحَافاً وَ إِلْحَاحاً خَاضِعاً لَكَ
wa takhash-shu'an wa tamalluqan wa tadarru'an wa ilhafan wa ilhahan khadi'an lak
and in humility, flattery, supplication, persistence, and insistence, submissive to You
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ
la ilaha illa anta wahdaka la sharika lak
there is no deity except You alone, You have no partner
يَا قُدُّوسُ يَا قُدُّوسُ يَا قُدُّوسُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ
ya quddusu ya quddusu ya quddusu ya Allahu ya Allahu ya Allah
O Holy, O Holy, O Holy, O Allah, O Allah, O Allah
يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا رَحْمَانُ يَا رَحِيمُ يَا رَحِيمُ يَا رَحِيمُ
ya rahmanu ya rahmanu ya rahmanu ya rahimu ya rahimu ya rahim
O Gracious, O Gracious, O Gracious, O Merciful, O Merciful, O Merciful
يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ يَا اللَّهُ
ya rabbi ya rabbi ya rabbi a'udhu bika ya Allah
O Lord, O Lord, O Lord, I seek refuge in You, O Allah
الْوَاحِدُ الْأَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ الْوَتْرُ الْكَبِيرُ الْمُتَعَالِ
al-wahidul-ahadus-samadul-watrul-kabirul-muta'al
the One, the Unique, the Eternal, the Singular, the Great, the Most High
وَ أَسْأَلُكَ بِجَمِيعِ مَا دَعَوْتُكَ بِهِ
wa as-aluka bi-jami'i ma da'awtuka bihi
and I ask You by everything I have called You with
وَ بِأَسْمَائِكَ الَّتِي تَمْلَأُ أَرْكَانَكَ كُلَّهَا
wa bi-as-ma'ikal-lati tamla'u arkanaka kullaha
and by Your names that fill all Your pillars
أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
an tusalliya 'ala Muhammadin wa ali Muhammad
that You send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad
وَ اغْفِرْ لِي وَ ارْحَمْنِي وَ أَوْسِعْ عَلَيَّ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ
wagh-fir li war-hamni wa awsi' 'alayya min fadlikal-'azim
and forgive me, and have mercy on me, and expand for me Your great bounty
وَ تَقَبَّلْ مِنِّي شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ وَ صِيَامَهُ وَ قِيَامَهُ
wa taqabbal minni shahra ramadana wa siyamahu wa qiyamahu
and accept from me the month of Ramadan, its fasting, and its standing in prayer
وَ فَرْضَهُ وَ نَوَافِلَهُ وَ اغْفِرْ لِي وَ ارْحَمْنِي وَ اعْفُ عَنِّي
wa fardahu wa nawafilah wa ghfir li war-hamni wa'fu 'anni
its obligations and its voluntary acts, and forgive me, have mercy on me, and pardon me
وَ لَا تَجْعَلْهُ آخِرَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانٍ صُمْتُهُ لَكَ وَ عَبَدْتُكَ فِيهِ
wa la taj'al-hu akhira shahri ramadana sumtuhu laka wa 'abadtuka fih
and do not make it the last month of Ramadan I fast for You and worship You in
وَ لَا تَجْعَلْ وَدَاعِي إِيَّاهُ وَدَاعَ خُرُوجِي مِنَ الدُّنْيَا
wa la taj'al wada'i iyyahu wada'a khuruji minad-dunya
and do not make my farewell to it a farewell to my departure from this world
اللَّهُمَّ أَوْجِبْ لِي مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ وَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَ رِضْوَانِكَ وَ خَشْيَتِكَ
Allahumma awjib li min rahmatika wa maghfiratika wa ridwanika wa khashyatik
O Allah, decree for me Your mercy, Your forgiveness, Your pleasure, and Your fear
أَفْضَلَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَ أَحَداً مِمَّنْ عَبَدَكَ فِيهِ
afdala ma a'tayta ahadan mimman 'abadaka fih
better than what You have given anyone who worshipped You during it
اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَجْعَلْنِي أَخْسَرَ مَنْ سَأَلَكَ فِيهِ
Allahumma la taj'alni akhsara man sa'alaka fih
O Allah, do not make me the most losing of those who asked You during it
وَ اجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ أَعْتَقْتَهُ فِي هَذَا الشَّهرِ مِنَ النَّارِ
waj-'alni mimman a'taqtahu fi hadhash-shahri minan-nar
and make me among those You have freed in this month from the Fire
وَ غَفَرْتَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ وَ مَا تَأَخَّرَ
wa ghafarta lahu ma taqaddama min dhanbihi wa ma ta'akh-khar
and whose past and future sins You have forgiven
وَ أَوْجَبْتَ لَهُ أَفْضَلَ مَا رَجَاكَ وَ أَمَّلَهُ مِنْكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
wa awjabta lahu afdala ma rajaka wa ammalahu minka ya arhamar-rahimin
and for whom You decreed the best of what he hoped and expected from You, O Most Merciful
اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي الْعَوْدَ فِي صِيَامِهِ لَكَ وَ عِبَادَتِكَ فِيهِ
Allahummar-zuqnil-'awda fi siyamihi laka wa 'ibadatika fih
O Allah, grant me the return to fasting for You and worshipping You in it
وَ اجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ كَتَبْتَهُ فِي هَذَا الشَّهْرِ مِنْ حُجَّاجِ بَيْتِكَ الْحَرَامِ
waj-'alni mimman katabtahu fi hadhash-shahri min hujjaji baytikal-haram
and make me among those You have recorded in this month as pilgrims to Your Sacred House
الْمَبْرُورِ حَجُّهُمُ الْمَغْفُورِ لَهُمْ ذَنْبُهُمُ الْمُتَقَبَّلِ عَمَلُهُمْ
al-mabruri hajjuhumul-maghfuri lahum dhanbuhumul-mutaqabbali 'amaluhum
whose Hajj is accepted, whose sins are forgiven, and whose deeds are accepted
آمِينَ آمِينَ آمِينَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ
amin amin amin rabbal-'alamin
Amen, Amen, Amen, Lord of the Worlds
اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَدَعْ لِي فِيهِ ذَنْباً إِلَّا غَفَرْتَهُ
Allahumma la tada' li fihi dhanban illa ghafartah
O Allah, do not leave for me in it any sin but that You forgive it
وَ لَا خَطِيئَةً إِلَّا مَحَوْتَهَا وَ لَا عَثْرَةً إِلَّا أَقَلْتَهَا
wa la khati'atan illa mahawtaha wa la 'athratan illa aqaltaha
nor any mistake but that You erase it, nor any stumble but that You overlook it
وَ لَا دَيْناً إِلَّا قَضَيْتَهُ وَ لَا عَيْلَةً إِلَّا أَغْنَيْتَهَا
wa la daynan illa qadaytahu wa la 'aylatan illa aghnaytaha
nor any debt but that You pay it, nor any poverty but that You enrich it
وَ لَا هَمّاً إِلَّا فَرَّجْتَهُ وَ لَا فَاقَةً إِلَّا سَدَدْتَهَا
wa la hamman illa farrajtahu wa la faqatan illa sadadtaha
nor any worry but that You relieve it, nor any need but that You fulfill it
وَ لَا عُرْياً إِلَّا كَسَوْتَهُ وَ لَا مَرَضاً إِلَّا شَفَيْتَهُ
wa la 'uryan illa kasawtahu wa la maradan illa shafaytah
nor any nakedness but that You clothe it, nor any illness but that You heal it
وَ لَا دَاءً إِلَّا أَذْهَبْتَهُ وَ لَا حَاجَةً إِلَّا قَضَيْتَهَا
wa la da'an illa adh-habtahu wa la hajatan illa qadaytaha
nor any ailment but that You remove it, nor any need but that You fulfill it
عَلَى أَفْضَلِ أَمَلِي وَ رَجَائِي فِيكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
'ala afdali amali wa raja'i fika ya arhamar-rahimin
according to the best of my hope and expectation in You, O Most Merciful
اللَّهُمَ لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنا
Allahumma la tuzigh qulubana ba'da idh hadaytana
O Allah, do not let our hearts swerve after You have guided us
وَ لَا تُذِلَّنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ أَعْزَزْتَنَا وَ لَا تَضَعْنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ رَفَعْتَنَا
wa la tudhillana ba'da idh a'zaztana wa la tada'na ba'da idh rafa'tana
and do not humiliate us after You have honored us, nor lower us after You have raised us
وَ لَا تُهِنَّا بَعْدَ إِذْ أَكْرَمْتَنَا وَ لَا تُفْقِرْنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ أَغْنَيْتَنَا
wa la tuhinna ba'da idh akramtana wa la tufqirna ba'da idh aghnaytana
and do not disgrace us after You have ennobled us, nor impoverish us after You have enriched us
وَ لَا تَمْنَعْنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ أَعْطَيْتَنَا وَ لَا تَحْرِمْنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ رَزَقْتَنَا
wa la tamna'na ba'da idh a'taytana wa la tahrimna ba'da idh razaqtana
and do not withhold from us after You have given us, nor deprive us after You have provided for us
وَ لَا تُغَيِّرْ شَيْئاً مِنْ نِعَمِكَ عَلَيْنَا وَ إِحْسَانِكَ إِلَيْنَا
wa la tughayyir shay'an min ni'amika 'alayna wa ihsanika ilayna
and do not change any of Your blessings upon us or Your kindness toward us
لِشَيْءٍ كَانَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِنَا وَ لَا لِمَا هُوَ كَائِنٌ مِنَّا
li-shay'in kana min dhunubina wa la lima huwa ka'inun minna
because of any of our past sins, or for what may come from us
فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَ تَجَاوَزْ عَنَّا وَ لَا تُعَاقِبْنَا عَلَيْهَا يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
fagh-fir lana wa tajawaz 'anna wa la tu'aqibna 'alayha ya arhamar-rahimin
so forgive us, and overlook our faults, and do not punish us for them, O Most Merciful
اللَّهُمَّ أَكْرِمْنِي فِي مَجْلِسِي هَذَا كَرَامَةً لَا تُهِينُنِي بَعْدَهَا أَبَداً
Allahumma akrimni fi majlisi hadha karamatan la tuhinuni ba'daha abada
O Allah, honor me in this gathering with an honor after which You will never humiliate me
وَ أَعِزَّنِي عِزّاً لَا تُذِلُّنِي بَعْدَهُ أَبَداً
wa a'izzani 'izzan la tudhilluni ba'dahu abada
and grant me a might after which You will never debase me
وَ عَافِنِي عَافِيَةً لَا تَبْتَلِينِي بَعْدَهَا أَبَداً
wa 'afini 'afiyatan la tabtalini ba'daha abada
and grant me a wellbeing after which You will never afflict me
وَ ارْفَعْنِي رِفْعَةً لَا تَضَعُنِي بَعْدَهَا أَبَداً
war-fa'ni rif'atan la tada'ni ba'daha abada
and raise me to a height after which You will never lower me
وَ اصْرِفْ عَنِّي شَرَّ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَرِيدٍ وَ شَرَّ كُلِّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ
was-rif 'anni sharra kulli shaytanin maridin wa sharra kulli jabbarin 'anid
and turn away from me the evil of every rebellious devil and every stubborn tyrant
وَ شَرَّ كُلِّ قَرِيبٍ أَوْ بَعِيدٍ وَ شَرَّ كُلِّ صَغِيرٍ أَوْ كَبِيرٍ
wa sharra kulli qaribin aw ba'idin wa sharra kulli saghirin aw kabir
and the evil of everyone near or far, and the evil of everyone small or great
وَ شَرَّ كُلِّ دَابَّةٍ أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِناصِيَتِها
wa sharra kulli dabbatin anta akhidhun bi-nasiyatiha
and the evil of every creature whose forelock You hold
إِنَّ رَبِّي عَلى صِراطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ
inna rabbi 'ala siratim-mustaqim
indeed, my Lord is on a straight path
اللَّهُمَّ مَا كَانَ فِي قَلْبِي مِنْ شَكٍّ أَوْ رِيبَةٍ
Allahumma ma kana fi qalbi min shakkin aw ribah
O Allah, whatever is in my heart of doubt or suspicion
أَوْ جُحُودٍ أَوْ قُنُوطٍ أَوْ فَرَحٍ أَوْ مَرَحٍ
aw juhudin aw qunutin aw farahin aw marah
or denial or despair or vanity or boastfulness
أَوْ بَطَرٍ أَوْ خُيَلَاءَ أَوْ رِيَاءٍ أَوْ سُمْعَةٍ
aw batarin aw khuyala'a aw riya'in aw sum'ah
or arrogance or pride or hypocrisy or seeking reputation
أَوْ شِقَاقٍ أَوْ نِفَاقٍ أَوْ كُفْرٍ أَوْ فُسُوقٍ أَوْ مَعْصِيَةٍ
aw shiqaqin aw nifaqin aw kufrin aw fusuqin aw ma'siyah
or discord or hypocrisy or disbelief or immorality or disobedience
أَوْ شَيْءٍ لَا تُحِبُّ عَلَيْهِ وَلِيّاً لَكَ فَأَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تَمْحُوَهُ مِنْ قَلْبِي
aw shay'in la tuhibbu 'alayhi waliyyan laka fa-as-aluka an tamhuwahu min qalbi
or anything for which You do not love Your friend, I ask You to erase it from my heart
وَ تُبَدِّلَنِي مَكَانَهُ إِيمَاناً وَ رِضًا بِقَضَائِكَ وَ وَفَاءً بِعَهْدِكَ
wa tubaddilani makanahu imanan wa ridan bi-qada'ika wa wafa'an bi-'ahdik
and replace it with faith, contentment with Your decree, and loyalty to Your covenant
وَ وَجَلًا مِنْكَ وَ زُهْداً فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ رَغْبَةً فِيمَا عِنْدَكَ
wa wajalan minka wa zuhdan fid-dunya wa raghbatan fima 'indak
and awe of You, and detachment from this world, and desire for what is with You
وَ ثِقَةً بِكَ وَ طُمَأْنِينَةً إِلَيْكَ وَ تَوْبَةً نَصُوحاً إِلَيْكَ
wa thiqatan bika wa tuma'ninatan ilayka wa tawbatan nasuhan ilayk
and trust in You, and tranquility in You, and a sincere repentance to You
اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ بَلَّغْتَنَاهُ وَ إِلَّا فَأَخِّرْ آجَالَنَا إِلَى قَابِلٍ
Allahumma in kunta ballaghtanahu wa illa fa-akh-khir ajalana ila qabil
O Allah, if You have allowed us to reach it (Ramadan), then so be it; otherwise, delay our terms until the next
حَتَّى تُبَلِّغَنَاهُ فِي يُسْرٍ مِنْكَ وَ عَافِيَةٍ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
hatta tuballighanahu fi yusrin minka wa 'afiyatin ya arhamar-rahimin
until You allow us to reach it in ease from You and wellbeing, O Most Merciful
وَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ كَثِيراً
wa sallallahu 'ala Muhammadin wa alihi kathira
and may Allah bless Muhammad and his family abundantly
وَ رَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ
wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
and the mercy of Allah and His blessings
يَا مُدَبّرَ الأُمُورِ،
yaa madabbiral umoor
O the Director of all affairs;
يَا بَاعِثَ مَنْ فِي القُبُورِ،
yaa baa—i’tha man fil quboor
O the Resurrector of all those in graves;
يَا مُجْرِيَ البُحُورِ،
yaa mujriyal buh’oor
O He Who causes oceans to flow;
يَا مُلَيّنَ الحَدِيدِ لِدَاوُدَ
yaa mulayyinal h’adeedi li—dawood
O He Who made the iron pliant for (Prophet) David;
صَلّ عَلَى مُحَمّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمّدٍ…
s’aali a’laa muh’aamadin wa aali muh’ammad
(Please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad
Then Say: waf—a’lbee
And do for me (mention your legitimate desires)
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
وَ اجْعَلْنِي مِنْ أَوْفَرِ عِبَادِكَ نَصِيباً مِنْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ
Waj‘alni min awfari ‘ibādika nasīban min kulli khayr
And make me among Your servants with the greatest share of all good.
أَنْزَلْتَهُ فِي هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ أَوْ أَنْتَ مُنْزِلُهُ
Anzaltahu fī hadhihi al-laylah aw anta munziluhu
That You have sent down this night or will send down.
مِنْ نُورٍ تَهْدِي بِهِ أَوْ رَحْمَةٍ تَنْشُرُهَا
Min nūrin tahdi bihi aw rahmatin tanshuruha
Of light by which You guide, or mercy which You spread.
أَوْ رِزْقٍ تَقْسِمُهُ أَوْ بَلَاءٍ تَرْفَعُهُ
Aw rizqin taqsimuhu aw balā’in tarfa‘uhu
Or sustenance that You distribute, or affliction that You remove.
أَوْ مَرَضٍ تَكْشِفُهُ
Aw maradin takshifuhu
Or illness that You heal.
وَ اكْتُبْ لِي فِيهَا مَا كَتَبْتَ لِأَوْلِيَائِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ
Waktub li fīhā mā katabta li-awliyā’ika al-sālihīn
And decree for me in it what You have decreed for Your righteous friends.
الَّذِينَ اسْتَوْجَبُوا مِنْكَ الثَّوَابَ وَ أَمِنُوا بِرِضَاكَ العَذَابَ
Alladhīna istawjabū minka al-thawāba wa aminū biridāka al-‘adhāba
Those who have earned reward from You and are safe from Your punishment.
يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ يَا كَرِيمُ
Ya Karīm, Ya Karīm, Ya Karīm
O Most Generous, O Most Generous, O Most Generous.
صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Salli ‘ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad
Send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
وَ افْعَلْ بِي ذَلِكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
Waf‘al bi dhalika birahmatika ya arham al-rāhimīn
And grant me that by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
وَ ارْزُقْنِي بَعْدَ انْقِضَاءِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ الْعِصْمَةَ وَ التَّوْبَةَ
Warzuqni ba‘da inqidā’i shahri Ramadān al-‘ismata wa al-tawbata
And grant me, after Ramadan ends, protection, repentance.
وَ الْإِنَابَةَ وَ التَّمَسُّكَ بِوَلَايَةِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Wa al-inābata wa al-tamassuka bi-walāyati Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad
And turning back to You, and holding fast to the guardianship of Muhammad and his family.
وَ مُنَّ عَلَيَّ أَبَداً مَا أَبْقَيْتَنِي بِذِكْرِكَ وَ شُكْرِكَ
Wa munn ‘alayya abadan mā abqaytanī bidhikrika wa shukrika
And bless me always, as long as You keep me alive, with Your remembrance and gratitude.
لِلرَّغْبَةِ وَ الثَّبَاتِ عَلَى دِينِكَ
Lil-raghbati wa al-thabāti ‘ala dīnika
For longing and steadfastness upon Your religion.
وَ التَّوْفِيقِ لِمَا وَفَّقْتَ لَهُ مُحَمَّداً وَ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ
Wa al-tawfīqi limā waffaqta lahu Muhammadan wa Aala Muhammad
And success in what You granted success to Muhammad and his family.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ قُلْتَ فِي كِتَابِكَ الْمُنْزَلِ
Allahumma innaka qulta fī kitābika al-munzal
O Allah, You have said in Your revealed Book.
وَ قَوْلُكَ الْحَقُّ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ
Wa qawluka al-haqqu shahru Ramadān alladhī unzila fīhi al-Qur’ān
And Your word is true: “The month of Ramadan in which the Quran was revealed.”
وَ هَذَا شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ قَدْ تَصَرَّمَتْ لَيَالِيهِ وَ أَيَّامُهُ
Wa hādhā shahru Ramadān qad tasarramat layālihi wa ayyāmuhu
And this is the month of Ramadan, whose nights and days have passed.
فَأَسْأَلُكَ بِوَجْهِكَ الْكَرِيمِ وَ كَلِمَاتِكَ التَّامَّةِ
Fa as’aluka bi-wajhika al-karīm wa kalimātika al-tāmmah
So I ask You by Your noble face and perfect words.
وَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Wa bihaqqi Muhammadin wa Aali Muhammad
And by the right of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
إِنْ كَانَ بَقِيَ عَلَيَّ ذَنْبٌ وَاحِدٌ لَمْ تَغْفِرْهُ لِي
In kāna baqiya ‘alayya dhanbun wāhidun lam taghfirhu lī
If there remains even one sin upon me that You have not forgiven.
أَوْ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تُحَاسِبَنِي عَلَيْهِ أَوْ تُعَاقِبَنِي عَلَيْهِ
Aw turīdu an tuḥāsibanī ‘alayhi aw tu‘āqibanī ‘alayh
Or if You intend to hold me accountable or punish me for it.
أَوْ تُقَايِسَنِي بِهِ أَنْ لَا يَطْلُعَ فَجْرُ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ
Aw tuqāyisanī bihi an lā yaṭlu‘a fajru hadhihi al-laylah
Or measure me by it, let not the dawn of this night rise.
أَوْ يَتَصَرَّمَ هَذَا الشَّهْرُ إِلَّا وَ قَدْ غَفَرْتَهُ لِي
Aw yatasarrama hadhā al-shahru illā wa qad ghafartahu lī
Or this month pass except that You have forgiven it for me.
يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
Ya arham al-rāhimīn
O Most Merciful of the merciful.
أَيْ مُلَيِّنَ الْحَدِيدِ لِدَاوُدَ
Ay mulayyina al-ḥadīdi li-Dāwūd
O You who softened iron for David.
أَيْ كَاشِفَ الْكَرْبِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ
Ay kāshifa al-karbi ‘an Muhammad
O You who relieved distress from Muhammad.
صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Salli ‘ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad
Send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
وَ اسْتَجِبْ دُعَائِي وَ أَعْطِنِي سُؤْلِي
Wa istajib du‘ā’ī wa a‘ṭinī su’lī
And answer my supplication and grant me my request.
وَ اجْعَلْ جَمِيعَ هَوَايَ لِي سَخَطاً إِلَّا مَا رَضِيتَهُ
Wa aj‘al jamī‘a hawāya lī sakhaṭan illā mā raḍītahu
And make all my desires displeasing to me except what pleases You.
وَ اجْعَلْ جَمِيعَ طَاعَتِكَ لِي رِضًا
Wa aj‘al jamī‘a ṭā‘atika lī riḍan
And make all obedience to You a source of satisfaction for me.
وَ إِنْ خَالَفَ مَا هَوَيْتُ عَلَى مَا أَحْبَبْتَ أَوْ كَرِهْتَ
Wa in khālafa mā hawaytu ‘ala mā aḥbabta aw karihta
Even if it opposes my desires, in what You love or dislike.
حَتَّى أَكُونَ لَكَ فِي جَمِيعِ مَا أَمَرْتَنِي مُتَابِعاً مُطِيعاً
Ḥattā akūna laka fī jamī‘i mā amartanī mutābi‘an muṭī‘an
Until I am obedient and following You in all that You command me.
سَامِعاً وَ عَنْ كُلِّ مَا نَهَيْتَنِي عَنْهُ مُنْتَهِياً
Sāmi‘an wa ‘an kulli mā nahaytanī ‘anhu muntahiyan
Listening and abstaining from all that You have forbidden me.
وَ فِي كُلِّ مَا قَضَيْتَ عَلَيَّ وَ لِي رَاضِياً
Wa fī kulli mā qaḍayta ‘alayya wa lī rāḍiyan
And pleased with all that You have decreed for me and upon me.
وَ عَلَى كُلِّ مَا أَنْعَمْتَ بِهِ عَلَيَّ شَاكِراً
Wa ‘ala kulli mā an‘amta bihi ‘alayya shākiran
And grateful for every blessing You have granted me.
وَ فِي كُلِّ حَالاتِي لَكَ ذَاكِراً
Wa fī kulli ḥālātī laka dhākiran
And in all my states, remembering You.
مِنْ حَالِ عَافِيَةٍ أَوْ بَلَاءٍ أَوْ شِدَّةٍ أَوْ رَخَاءٍ
Min ḥāli ‘āfiyatin aw balā’in aw shiddatin aw rakhā’
Whether in well-being or trial, hardship or ease.
إِلَهِي فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Ilāhī fa salli ‘ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad
My God, so send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
وَ انْظُرْ إِلَيَّ فِي جَمِيعِ أُمُورِي نَظْرَةً رَحِيمَةً
Wa unẓur ilayya fī jamī‘i umūrī naẓratan raḥīmah
And look upon me in all my affairs with a merciful glance.
شَرِيفَةً كَرِيمَةً تُقَوِّينِي بِهَا عَلَى مَا أَمَرْتَنِي بِهِ
Sharīfatan karīmah tuqawwīnī bihā ‘ala mā amartanī bihi
A noble and generous glance that strengthens me for what You command me.
وَ تُسَدِّدُنِي لَهَا وَ لِجَمِيعِ مَا كَلَّفْتَنِي فِعْلَهُ
Wa tusaddidunī lahā wa lijamī‘i mā kallaftanī fi‘lah
And guide me to it and all that You have enjoined upon me.
وَ تَزِيدُنِي بِهَا بَصَراً وَ يَقِيناً
Wa tazīdanī bihā baṣaran wa yaqīnan
And increase me through it in insight and certainty.
فِي جَمِيعِ مَا عَرَّفْتَنِي مِنْ آلَائِكَ عِنْدِي
Fī jamī‘i mā ‘arraqtanī min ālā’ika ‘indī
In all that You have made me recognize of Your favors upon me.
إِلَهِي حَاجَتِيَ الْعُظْمَى
Ilāhī ḥājatī al-‘uẓmā
My God, my greatest need.
الَّتِي إِنْ قَضَيْتَهَا لَمْ يَضُرَّنِي مَا مَنَعْتَنِي
Allatī in qaḍaytahā lam yaḍurranī mā mana‘tanī
Which, if You fulfill it, nothing You withhold will harm me.
وَ إِنْ مَنَعْتَنِيهَا لَمْ يَنْفَعْنِي مَا أَعْطَيْتَنِي
Wa in mana‘tanīhā lam yanfa‘nī mā a‘ṭaytanī
And if You withhold it, nothing You grant will benefit me.
أَسْأَلُكَ فَكَاكَ رَقَبَتِي مِنَ النَّارِ
As’aluka fakāka raqabati mina al-nār
I ask You for the release of my neck from the Fire.
يَا سَيِّدِي ارْحَمْنِي مِنَ السَّلَاسِلِ وَ الْأَغْلَالِ وَ السَّعِيرِ
Ya sayyidī irḥamnī mina al-salāsili wa al-aghlāli wa al-sa‘īr
O my Master, have mercy on me from chains, shackles, and the blazing fire.
وَ ارْحَمْنِي مِنَ الطَّعَامِ الزَّقُّومِ وَ شُرْبِ الْحَمِيمِ
Wa irḥamnī mina al-ṭa‘āmi al-zaqqūmi wa shurbi al-ḥamīm
And have mercy on me from the food of Zaqqūm and the drinking of boiling water.
ارْحَمْنِي مِنْ جَهَنَّمَ إِنَّ عَذابَها كانَ غَراماً
Irḥamnī min jahannama inna ‘adhābahā kāna gharāmā
Have mercy on me from Hell, indeed its punishment is lasting.
إِنَّها ساءَتْ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَ مُقاماً
Innahā sā’at mustaqarra wa muqāmā
Indeed, it is an evil dwelling and place of stay.
لَا تُعَذِّبْنِي وَ أَنَا أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ
Lā tu‘adhdhibnī wa anā astaghfiruka
Do not punish me while I seek Your forgiveness.
وَ لَا تَحْرِمْنِي وَ أَنَا أَسْأَلُكَ
Wa lā taḥrimnī wa anā as’aluka
And do not deprive me while I ask You.
أَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَ مَا فِيهَا
As’aluka al-jannata wa mā fīhā
I ask You for Paradise and all that is in it.
وَ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ وَ مَا جَمَعْتَ
Wa a‘ūdhu bika mina al-nāri wa mā jama‘ta
And I seek refuge in You from the Fire and all that it contains.
اللَّهُمَّ فَزَوِّجْنِي مِنَ الْحُورِ الْعِينِ
Allāhumma fazawwijnī mina al-ḥūri al-‘īn
O Allah, grant me marriage with the heavenly maidens (Ḥūr al-‘Īn).
وَ اجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ يَأْتِي آمِناً يَوْمَ الْقِيامَةِ
Wa aj‘alnī mimman ya’tī āminan yawma al-qiyāmah
And make me among those who come on the Day of Judgment in security.
إِنِّي لِما أَنْزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ
Innī limā anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqīr
Indeed, I am in need of whatever good You send down to me.
اللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
Allāhumma faṣalli ‘alā Muḥammad wa Āli Muḥammad
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
وَ ابْدَأْ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي كُلِّ خَيْرٍ
Wa ibda’ bi-Muḥammad wa Āli Muḥammad fī kulli khayr
And begin with Muhammad and the family of Muhammad in every good.
مِنْ خَيْرِ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ
Min khayri al-dunyā wa al-ākhirah
From the goodness of this world and the Hereafter.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يُدْرِكُ الْعُلَمَاءُ عِلْمَهُ
al-hamdu lillahi-lladhi la yudrikul-'ulama'u 'ilmahu
Praise be to Allah, whose knowledge the scholars cannot encompass
وَ لَا يَسْتَخِفُّ الْجُهَّالُ حِلْمَهُ
wa la yastakhifful-juhhalu hilmahu
and the ignorant cannot undermine His forbearance
وَ لَا يُحْسِنُ الْخَلَائِقُ وَصْفَهُ
wa la yuhsinul-khala'iqu wasfahu
and the creatures cannot perfect His description
وَ لَا يَخْفَى عَلَيْهِ مَا فِي الصُّدُورِ
wa la yakhfa 'alayhi ma fis-sudur
and nothing in the hearts is hidden from Him
خَلَقَ خَلْقَهُ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَصْلٍ وَ لَا مِثَالٍ
khalaqa khalqahu min ghayri aslin wa la mithal
He created His creation without an origin or a precedent
بِلَا تَعَبٍ وَ لَا نَصَبٍ وَ لَا تَعْلِيمٍ
bila ta'abin wa la nasabin wa la ta'lim
without fatigue, exhaustion, or being taught
وَ رَفَعَ السَّمَاوَاتِ الْمَوْطُودَاتِ بِلَا أَصْحَابٍ وَ لَا أَعْوَانٍ
wa rafa'as-samawatil-mawtudati bila as-habin wa la a'wan
and He raised the firm heavens without companions or helpers
وَ بَسَطَ الْأَرْضَ عَلَى الْهَوَاءِ بِغَيْرِ أَرْكَانٍ
wa basatal-arda 'alal-hawa'i bi-ghayri arkan
and He spread the earth upon the air without pillars
عَلِمَ بِلَا تَعْلِيمٍ وَ خَلَقَ بِلَا مِثَالٍ
'alima bila ta'limin wa khalaqa bila mithal
He knew without being taught and He created without a precedent
عِلْمُهُ بِخَلْقِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُكَوِّنَهُمْ كَعِلْمِهِ بِهِمْ بَعْدَ تَكْوِينِهِ لَهُمْ
'ilmuhu bi-khalqihi qabla an yu-kawwinahum ka-'ilmihi bi-him ba'da tak-winihi lahum
His knowledge of His creation before He brought them into being is like His knowledge of them after He brought them into being
لَمْ يَخْلُقِ الْخَلْقَ لِتَشْدِيدِ سُلْطَانٍ
lam yakhluqil-khalqa li-tash-didi sultan
He did not create the creation to strengthen His authority
وَ لَا لِخَوْفٍ مِنْ زَوَالٍ وَ لَا نُقْصَانٍ
wa la li-khawfin min zawalin wa la nuq-san
nor out of fear of its passing or any deficiency
وَ لَا اسْتَعَانَ بِخَلْقِهِ عَلَى ضِدٍّ مُكَابِرٍ
wa las-ta'ana bi-khalqihi 'ala diddin mukabir
nor did He seek help from His creation against a stubborn opponent
وَ لَا نِدٍّ مُشَاوِرٍ
wa la niddin mushawir
nor from a consulting rival
مَا لِسُلْطَانِهِ حَدٌّ وَ لَا لِمُلْكِهِ نَفَادٌ
ma li-sultanihi haddun wa la li-mulkihi nafad
There is no limit to His authority and no end to His kingdom
تَقَدَّسَ بِنُورِ قُدْسِهِ دَنَا فَعَلا وَ عَلَا فَدَنَا
taqaddasa bi-nuri qudsihi dana fa-'ala wa 'ala fa-dana
He is sanctified by the light of His holiness, He approached and became high, and was high and approached
فَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ حَمْداً يَنْتَهِي مِنْ سَمَائِهِ إِلَى مَا لَا نِهَايَةَ فِي اعْتِلَائِهِ
fa-lahul-hamdu hamdan yantahi min sama'ihi ila ma la nihayata fi-ti'la'ih
To Him belongs praise, a praise that reaches from His heaven to that which has no end in its height
حَسُنَ فَعَالُهُ وَ عَظُمَ جَلَالُهُ وَ أُوضِحَ بُرْهَانُهُ
hasuna fa'aluhu wa 'azuma jalaluhu wa ud-diha burhanuh
His actions are beautiful, His majesty is great, and His proof is clear
فَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ زِنَةَ الْجِبَالِ ثِقْلًا
fa-lahul-hamdu zinatal-jibali thiqla
To Him belongs praise as heavy as the weight of the mountains
وَ عَدَدَ الْمَاءِ وَ الثَّرَى
wa 'adadal-ma'i wath-thara
and the number of the drops of water and the soil
وَ عَدَدَ مَا يُرَى وَ عَدَدَ مَا لَا يُرَى
wa 'adada ma yura wa 'adada ma la yura
and the number of what is seen and what is not seen
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَانَ إِذْ لَمْ تَكُنْ أَرْضٌ مَدْحِيَّةٌ
al-hamdu lillahi-lladhi kana idh lam takun ardun mad-hiyyah
Praise be to Allah, who existed when there was no spread-out earth
وَ لَا سَمَاءٌ مَبْنِيَّةٌ وَ لَا جِبَالٌ مُرْسَيَةً
wa la sama'un mabniyyatun wa la jibalun mursayah
nor a constructed heaven, nor fixed mountains
وَ لَا شَمْسٌ تَجْرِي وَ لَا قَمَرٌ يَسْرِي
wa la shamsun tajri wa la qamarun yasri
nor a running sun, nor a traveling moon
وَ لَا لَيْلٌ يُدْجَى وَ لَا نَهارٌ يُضَحَّى
wa la laylun yud-ja wa la naharun yud-ha
nor a darkening night, nor a brightening day
اكْتَفَى بِحَمْدِهِ عَنْ حَمْدِ غَيْرِهِ
iktafa bi-hamdihi 'an hamdi ghayrih
He is content with His own praise over the praise of others
الْحَمْدُ الَّذِي تَفَرَّدَ بِالْحَمْدِ وَ دَعَا بِهِ
al-hamdu-lladhi tafar-rada bil-hamdi wa da'a bih
Praise be to Him who is unique in praise and called for it
فَهُوَ وَلِيُّ الْحَمْدِ وَ مُنْشِئُهُ وَ خَالِقُهُ وَ وَاهِبُهُ
fahuwa waliyyul-hamdi wa mun-shi'uhu wa khaliquhu wa wahibuh
For He is the Master of praise, its originator, its creator, and its giver
مَلَكَ فَقَهَرَ وَ حَكَمَ فَعَدَلَ
malaka fa-qahara wa hakama fa-'adal
He possessed and prevailed, and He judged and was just
وَ أَضَاءَ فَاسْتَنَارَ هُوَ كَهْفُ الْحَمْدِ وَ قَرَارُهُ
wa ada'a fas-tanara huwa kahful-hamdi wa qararuh
And He shone and gave light, He is the refuge of praise and its resting place
وَ مِنْهُ مُبْتَدَاهُ وَ إِلَيْهِ مُنْتَهَاهُ
wa minhu mub-tadahu wa ilayhi mun-tahah
from Him is its beginning and to Him is its end
اسْتَخْلَصَ الْحَمْدَ لِنَفْسِهِ وَ رَضِيَ بِهِ مِمَّنْ حَمِدَهُ
is-takh-lasal-hamda li-nafsihi wa radia bihi mimman hamidah
He extracted praise for Himself and was pleased with it from whoever praises Him
فَهُوَ الْوَاحِدُ بِلَا نِسْبَةٍ الدَّائِمُ بِلَا مُدَّةٍ
fahuwal-wahidu bila nis-batin ad-da'imu bila muddah
He is the One without relation, the Eternal without duration
الْمُتَفَرِّدُ بِالْقُوَّةِ الْمُتَوَحِّدُ بِالْقُدْرَةِ
al-mutafar-ridu bil-quwwati al-mutawah-hidu bil-qudrah
the Unique in power, the One in ability
لَمْ يَزَلْ مُلْكُهُ عَظِيماً وَ مَنُّهُ قَدِيماً وَ قَوْلُهُ رَحِيماً
lam yazal mulkuhu 'aziman wa mannuhu qadiman wa qawluhu rahima
His kingdom has always been great, His favor ancient, and His word merciful
وَ أَسْمَاؤُهُ ظَاهِرَةً
wa as-ma'uhu zahirah
and His names are manifest
رَضِيَ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ بَعْدَ الصُّنْعِ أَنْ قَالُوا الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعالَمِينَ
radia min 'ibadihi ba'das-sun'i an qalu al-hamdu lillahi rabbil-'alamin
He was pleased with His servants, after creation, that they say Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds
وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ مِثْلَ جَمِيعِ مَا خَلَقَ وَ زِنَتَهُ
wal-hamdu lillahi mithla jami'i ma khalaqa wa zinatah
And praise be to Allah like all that He created and its weight
وَ أَضْعَافَ ذَلِكَ أَضْعَافاً لَا تُحْصَى
wa ad-'afa dhalika ad-'afan la tuhsa
and multiples of that, multiples that cannot be counted
عَلَى جَمِيعِ نِعَمِهِ وَ عَلَى مَا هَدَانَا وَ آتَانَا وَ قَوَّانَا
'ala jami'i ni'amihi wa 'ala ma hadana wa atana wa qawwana
for all His blessings, and for what He guided us to, gave us, and strengthened us with
بِمَنِّهِ عَلَى صِيَامِ شَهْرِنَا هَذَا
bi-mannihi 'ala siyami shahrina hadha
by His favor upon our fasting of this month of ours
وَ مَنَّ عَلَيْنَا بِقِيَامِ بَعْضِ لَيْلِهِ
wa manna 'alayna bi-qiyami ba'di laylih
and He favored us with standing for prayer during some of its nights
وَ آتَانَا مَا لَمْ نَسْتَأْهِلْهُ وَ لَمْ نَسْتَوْجِبْهُ بِأَعْمَالِنَا
wa atana ma lam nas-ta'-hilhu wa lam nas-taw-jibhu bi-a'malina
and He gave us what we did not deserve and did not earn by our deeds
فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ
fa-lakal-hamdu
so to You belongs praise
اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا فَأَنْتَ مَنَنْتَ عَلَيْنَا فِي شَهْرِنَا هَذَا
Allahumma rabbana fa-anta mananta 'alayna fi shahrina hadha
O Allah, our Lord, You have favored us in this month of ours
بِتَرْكِ لَذَّاتِنَا وَ اجْتِنَابِ شَهَوَاتِنَا
bi-tarki ladh-dhatina waj-tinabi shahawatina
by giving up our pleasures and avoiding our desires
وَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ مَنِّكَ عَلَيْنَا لَا مَنٍّ مِنَّا عَلَيْكَ
wa dhalika min mannika 'alayna la mannin minna 'alayk
and that is from Your favor upon us, not a favor from us to You
رَبَّنَا فَلَيْسَ أَعْظَمُ الْأَمْرَيْنِ عَلَيْنَا نُحُولَ أَجْسَامِنَا وَ نَصْبَ أَبْدَانِنَا
rabbana fa-laysa a'zamul-amrayni 'alayna nuhula ajsamina wa nas-ba abdanina
Our Lord, the greater of the two matters to us is not the emaciation of our bodies or the exhaustion of our frames
وَ لَكِنْ أَعْظَمُ الْأَمْرَيْنِ وَ أَجَلُّ الْمَصَائِبِ عِنْدَنَا
wa lakin a'zamul-amrayni wa ajallul-masa'ibi 'indana
but the greater of the two matters and the most majestic of calamities to us
مَا إِنْ خَرَجْنَا مِنْ شَهْرِنَا هَذَا مُحْتَقِبِينَ بِالْخَيْبَةِ مَحْرُومِينَ
ma in kharajna min shahrina hadha muh-taqibina bil-khaybati mahrumin
is if we exit this month of ours carrying away disappointment and deprivation
قَدْ خَابَ طَمَعُنَا وَ كَذَبَ ظَنُّنَا
qad khaba tama'una wa kadhaba zannuna
with our hopes failed and our expectations proven false
فَيَا مَنْ لَهُ صُمْنَا وَ وَعْدَهُ صَدَّقْنَا
fa-ya man lahu sumna wa wa'dahu saddaqna
So O He for whom we fasted and whose promise we believed
وَ أَمْرَهُ اتَّبَعْنَا وَ إِلَيْهِ رَغِبْنَا
wa amrahut-taba'na wa ilayhi raghibna
and whose command we followed and for whom we desired
لَا تَجْعَلِ الْحِرْمَانَ حَظَّنَا وَ لَا الْخَيْبَةَ جَزَاءَنَا
la taj'alil-hirmana hazzana wa lal-khaybata jaza'ana
do not make deprivation our lot nor disappointment our reward
فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ حَرَمْتَنَا فَأَهْلُ ذَلِكَ نَحْنُ لِسُوءِ صَنِيعِنَا وَ كَثْرَةِ خَطَايَانَا
fa-innaka in haramtana fa-ahlu dhalika nahnu li-su'i sani'ina wa kathrati khatayana
for if You deprive us, we are deserving of that due to our evil conduct and many mistakes
وَ إِنْ تَعْفُ عَنَّا رَبَّنَا وَ تَقْضِ حَوَائِجَنَا فَأَنْتَ أَهْلُ ذَلِكَ مَوْلَانَا
wa in ta'fu 'anna rabbana wa taqdi hawa'ijana fa-anta ahlu dhalika mawlana
but if You pardon us, our Lord, and fulfill our needs, You are worthy of that, our Master
فَطَالَ مَا بِالْعَفْوِ عِنْدَ الذُّنُوبِ اسْتَقْبَلْتَنَا
fa-tala ma bil-'afwi 'indad-dhunubi is-taqbal-tana
for long have You met us with pardon despite our sins
وَ بِالرَّحْمَةِ لَدَى اسْتِيجَابِ عُقُوبَتِكَ أَدْرَكْتَنَا
wa bir-rahmati lada is-tijabi 'uqubatika ad-rak-tana
and with mercy when we deserved Your punishment, You reached us
وَ بِالتَّجَاوُزِ وَ السَّتْرِ عِنْدَ ارْتِكَابِ مَعَاصِيكَ كَافَيْتَنَا
wa bit-tajawuzi was-satri 'inda ar-tikabi ma'asika kafay-tana
and with overlooking and veiling when committing Your disobediences, You sufficed us
رَبَّنَا فَمُنَّ عَلَيْنَا بِعَفْوِكَ يَا كَرِيمُ
rabbana fa-munna 'alayna bi-'afwika ya karim
Our Lord, so favor us with Your pardon, O Generous One
فَقَدْ عَظُمَتْ مُصِيبَتُنَا وَ كَثُرَ أَسَفُنَا عَلَى مُفَارَقَةِ شَهْرٍ كَبُرَ فِيهِ أَمَلُنَا
fa-qad 'azumat musibatuna wa kathura asafuna 'ala mufaraqati shahrin kabura fihi amaluna
for our calamity is great and our regret is much over parting from a month in which our hope was large
وَ سَيِّدَنَا فَعَلَى شَهْرِ صَوْمِنَا الْعَظِيمِ فِيهِ رَجَاؤُنَا السَّلَامُ
wa sayyidana fa-'ala shahri sawminal-'azimi fihi raja'unas-salam
And our Master, upon the month of our great fasting, in which is our hope, be peace
اللَّهُمَّ فَاجْعَلْ عِوَضَنَا مِنْ شَهْرِ صَوْمِنَا مَغْفِرَتَكَ وَ رَحْمَتَكَ
Allahumma faj-'al 'iwadana min shahri sawmina maghfirataka wa rahmataka
O Allah, make our compensation for the month of our fasting Your forgiveness and Your mercy
رَبَّنَا وَ إِنْ كُنْتَ رَحِمْتَنَا فِي شَهْرِنَا هَذَا فَذَلِكَ ظَنُّنَا وَ أَمَلُنَا
rabbana wa in kunta rahimtana fi shahrina hadha fa-dhalika zannuna wa amaluna
Our Lord, and if You have had mercy on us in this month of ours, that is our expectation and our hope
فَازْدَدْ عَنَّا رِضًا
faz-dad 'anna rida
so increase in Your pleasure with us
وَ إِنْ كُنَّا حُرِمْنَا ذَلِكَ بِذُنُوبِنَا فَمِنَ الْآنَ رَبَّنَا لَا تُفَرِّقْ جَمَاعَتَنَا حَتَّى تَشْهَدَ لَنَا بِعِتْقِنَا
wa in kunna hurimna dhalika bi-dhunubina fa-minal-ana rabbana la tufar-riq jama'atana hatta tash-hada lana bi-'itqina
and if we were deprived of that by our sins, then from now, our Lord, do not disperse our gathering until You bear witness to our freedom from the Fire
وَ تُعْطِيَنَا فَوْقَ أَمَلِنَا وَ تَزِيدَنَا فَوْقَ طَلِبَتِنَا
wa tu'tiyana fawqa amalina wa tazi-dana fawqa talibatina
and give us beyond our hope and increase us beyond our request
وَ تَجْعَلَ شَهْرَنَا هَذَا أَمَاناً لَنَا مِنْ عَذَابِكَ
wa taj'ala shahrana hadha amanan lana min 'adhabik
and make this month of ours a security for us from Your punishment
وَ إِنْ أَنْتَ بَلَّغْتَنَا شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ أَيْضاً فَبَلِّغْنَا غَيْرَ عَائِدِينَ فِي شَيْءٍ مِمَّا تُكْرَهُ
wa in anta ballagh-tana shahra ramadana aydan fa-balligh-na ghayra 'a'idina fi shay'in mimma tukrah
and if You allow us to reach the month of Ramadan again, let us reach it without returning to anything You dislike
ثُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَ اجْعَلْنَا أَسْعَدَ أَهْلِهِ بِهِ
thumma barik lana fihi waj-'alna as'ada ahlihi bih
then bless it for us and make us the happiest of its people with it
وَ إِنْ أَتَتْ آجَالُنَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ فَاجْعَلِ الْجَنَّةَ مُنْقَلَبَنَا وَ مَصِيرَنَا
wa in atat ajaluna duna dhalika faj-'alil-jannata mun-qalabana wa masirana
and if our terms come before that, then make Paradise our destination and our fate
وَ اجْعَلْ خُرُوجَنَا إِلَى مُصَلَّانَا وَ مُجْتَمَعِنَا خُرُوجاً مِنْ جَمِيعِ ذُنُوبِنَا
waj-'al khurujana ila musallana wa muj-tama'ina khurujan min jami'i dhunubina
and make our exit to our place of prayer and our gathering an exit from all our sins
وَ اجْعَلْنَا أَوْجَهَ مَنْ تَوَجَّهَ إِلَيْكَ وَ أَقْرَبَ مَنْ تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيْكَ
waj-'alna aw-jaha man tawaj-jaha ilayka wa aqraba man taqar-raba ilayk
and make us the most distinguished of those who turn to You and the closest of those who draw near to You
وَ انْقَلِبْنَا مِنْ مُصَلَّانَا وَ قَدْ غَفَرْتَ لَنَا مَا سَلَفَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِنَا
wan-qalibna min musallana wa qad ghafarta lana ma salafa min dhunubina
and let us return from our place of prayer with You having forgiven our past sins
وَ عَصَمْتَنَا فِي بَقِيَّةِ أَعْمَارِنَا
wa 'asam-tana fi baqiy-yati a'marina
and protected us for the rest of our lives
وَ اجْعَلْ لَنَا فِي الْحَلَالِ مَفْسَحاً وَ مُتَّسَعاً
waj-'al lana fil-halali maf-sahan wa mut-tasa'a
and make for us in the permissible a wide space and abundance
اللَّهُمَّ وَ نَبِيَّكَ الْمُحَبَّبَ الْمُكَرَّمَ
Allahumma wa nabiyy-yakal-muhabbabal-mukar-ram
O Allah, and Your beloved, honored Prophet
فَاجْزِهِ اللَّهُمَّ عَنَّا أَفْضَلَ مَا جَزَيْتَ نَبِيّاً عَنْ أُمَّتِهِ
faj-zihi Allahumma 'anna afdala ma jazayta nabiyyan 'an ummatih
so reward him, O Allah, on our behalf with the best reward You have given a prophet for his nation
وَ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ عَدَدَ كَلِمَاتِكَ التَّامَّاتِ
wa salli 'alayhi 'adada kalima-tikat-tam-mat
and bless him according to the number of Your perfect words
وَ ارْفَعْهُ إِلَى أَعْلَى الدَّرَجِ وَ أَشْرَفِ الْغُرَفِ
war-fa'hu ila a'lad-daraji wa ash-rafil-ghuraf
and raise him to the highest degrees and the most noble of chambers
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَ لِمَنْ وَلَدَنَا مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ
Allahummagh-fir lana wa liman waladana minal-mu'minina wal-mu'minat
O Allah, forgive us and our parents among the believing men and women
اللَّهُمَّ انْصُرْ جُيُوشَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَ اسْتَنْقِذْ أُسَارَاهُمْ
Allahumman-sur juyushal-mus-limina was-tan-qidh usarahum
O Allah, help the armies of the Muslims and rescue their captives
اللَّهُمَّ اطْوِ لِحُجَّاجِ بَيْتِكَ الْحَرَامِ الْبُعْدَ وَ سَهِّلْ لَهُمُ الْحَزْنَ
Allahumma-twi li-huj-jaji baytikal-haramil-bu'da wa sahhil lahumul-hazn
O Allah, shorten the distance for the pilgrims of Your Sacred House and make the difficult terrain easy for them
وَ أَرْجِعْهُمْ غَانِمِينَ مَغْفُوراً لَهُمْ كُلُّ ذَنْبٍ
wa ar-ji'hum ghanimina maghfuran lahum kullu dhanb
and return them successful with every sin forgiven
اللَّهُمَّ وَ فَرِّجْ عَنْ مَكْرُوبي أُمَّةِ أَحْمَدَ
Allahumma wa far-rij 'an makrubi ummati Ahmad
O Allah, and relieve the distressed ones of the nation of Ahmad
اللَّهُمَّ وَ كَمَا سَأَلْتُكَ فَافْعَلْ ذَلِكَ بِنَا وَ بِجَمِيعِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Allahumma wa kama sa'altuka faf-'al dhalika bina wa bi-jami'il-mu'minin
O Allah, as I have asked You, so do that for us and for all the believers
اللَّهُمَّ وَ مَا سَأَلْنَاكَ أَوْ لَمْ نَسْأَلْكَ مِنْ جَمِيعِ الْخَيْرِ كُلِّهِ فَأَعْطِنَاهُ
Allahumma wa ma sa'alnaka aw lam nas-al-ka min jami'il-khayri kullihi fa-a'tina
O Allah, and what we asked You or did not ask You of all goodness, then give it to us
وَ آتِنا فِي الدُّنْيا حَسَنَةً وَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَ قِنا عَذابَ النَّارِ
wa atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar
And give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the punishment of the Fire
اللَّهُمَّ وَ اجْمَعْ لَنَا خَيْرَ الْآخِرَةِ وَ الدُّنْيَا
Allahumma waj-ma' lana khayral-akhirati wad-dunya
O Allah, and gather for us the good of the Hereafter and this world
وَ أَعِذْنَا مِنْ شَرِّهِمَا يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
wa a'idhna min sharri-hima ya arhamar-rahimin
and protect us from the evil of both, O Most Merciful of the merciful
